Leclerc have the same. And a machine to give money for recycling plastic bottles, I’ve never used it but I think it gives 1c voucher /bottle
When I lived in the UK the local Asda used to have machines that converted small change to larger denominations, but they were expensive to use iirc.
Looking at the website for the company who manages it, I see things haven’t changed:
Just throw your loose change into the self checkout and it gets converted into groceries with no fees. Though you might hack off the queue behind you.
And then make sure to write a cheque for the difference between your small change and the total amount
Do have a manbag though. And first, look through it for you glasses, removing and then replacing every item before you find them. After you’ve put on your glasses, proceed to remove and replace every item again before you find your cheque book.
Always amazes me, the endless good natured patience of the French, no matter what the situation and inconvenience caused.
Until they get behind the wheel of a car.
Perhaps things might speed up a bit at the cashout if we were all issued with little bumper cars instead of chariots to do our shopping with.
There are so many pockets in a man bag !
Don’t forget the vouchers which all have to be signed.
And don’t get your ID ready beforehand… everyone else in the queue loves it when you spend another couple of minutes searching for it.
But they really don’t mind. The other day I was behind such a person and looking back in the queue I rolled my eyes at all in general. All I got was uncomprehending looks.
And I think my son must have some sort of French connection, when I went shopping at midday in our supermarket which closes at 1230, I was so embarrassed by his last minute (literally) emptying and repacking of his bags in the trolley. We were the last out, so no queue to avoid the eyes of, but the cashier was unfazed and the only other staff member left was at the door with keys in hand.
Nobody minded, except me.
Just keep it too your self. I once got a tempered glass this way
