Cat deterrents

I have a fly screen to roll up and the problem is at night.

An expensive water pistol? There are solar-powered versions.

I’m continually amazed by the things that are conceived, designed, manufactured and finally sold in our world…

Threaten to send them to live in Springfield, Ohio. Should do the trick.

Cats are creature of habit. Once those cats got into the habit of not going where you had your deterrents, they didn’t take to doing that again.

New neighbours moved in nearby, bringing their monster sized male pet cat with them. My four cats were attacked immediately by monster-cat on his arrival, but he soon left three of them alone, one female and two much smaller elderly males.

My other male cat, younger, bigger and stronger, but smaller than monster cat, stood his ground every time he was attacked. I’ve seen monster cat hiding in tall grass adjacent to my garden, deliberately waiting for my cat to come by. I’ve seen him in my front garden at 3’ish in the morning, on infra-red video, looking for him!

I started to look for a really powerful water pistol and that is why I posted higher up this page the powered water deterrent! Couldn’t find a pistol…

I helped as best I could by chasing monster cat away, clapping my hands loudly, whenever I saw him or heard any skirmishes. Whenever he sees me now, he skulks away back to his own garden.

I see him only occasionally, and don’t see any more patches of my cat’s white fur scattered about. My cat continues to prowl his territory, as he did before monster cat arrived - and hasn’t been deterred. Between us I think monster cat has been. Thankfully.

Doesn’t work here, cheeky daft they are, although my Beauceron, Jules, goes mad with barking and chasing if he sees a cat, they still come in the garden, knowing they are more alert and faster than him. I don’t object to them, loving all animals as I do, but I do complain when having to collect cat poo as well on my dogpoo circuit.

Before Jules we had our Rotteiler, Boss (my avatar) and English Setter Tosca. There was a one-eyed cat which took to wandering into the house when the doors were open in summertime. She tried to kiss noses to Tosca, but she grumpily snapped to deter her. But my surprise and joy was when Boss spotted her and slowly walked towards her. Holding his collar lightly, just in case, I walked with him towards where One-Eye was sitting, staring at him. Very gradually the distance reduced to almost nil, then the lightest whisper of touched noses before both turned and slowly walked away from each other. It was a magic moment. :joy:
