We’re used to “large turnover/tiny margines” (commission: tobacco 7%, FDJ 5%, (we have to sell a hell of a lot of cigarettes and scratch cards to pay three salaries and the huge social and business charges!)). Some buy higher margine stuff sweets and drinks, others nothing but that’s the business!
Lots of towns in France have a rue/place/avenue de Gambetta and this is who they are named after. Just for anyone who may be interested.

Eek that is harsh!!! Presumably why is is strict about not having tabacs too close etc?
Yep, we’re basically a state controlled mafia, almost no new tabacs allowed, big enquiry if you want to move premises, including the other buralistes being asked if they agree, and we’re controlled by the Douanes. Compulsory training (not rocket science ) and refresher training every three years. Clean criminal record and if that changes you’re “struck off”
Expatriate - A person who lives outside their native country.
Immigrant - A person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
As I said.
I just checked and seems to be working fine now.
that’s great… I’ll check quickly… off to see some Brits and would like the latest info…
Can’t see any changes to the flowchart for Brits more than 5 or less than 5… ie first 2 pages…
phew…
Perhaps it’s been taken off-line for 10 minutes so that a native English speaker can proof read the English version?
Good morning all,
And now the question to confuse things? I now have dual nationality, german and british. All my entitlements are in the UK though, I left Germany at 18. 35 years ago. So, do I need to apply or am I still covered by freedom of movement? We are currently waiting for our Cartes Vital.
Your German passport gives you your rights… surely… ???
If you have German nationality then you’re still an EU citizen and as such keep all those advantages
The sticky point is the fact that my pension, social security entitlements, National Insurance and the rest are all in the uk. So in that regard the WA does apply to me as well.
No harm in applying for it, and may be helpful as you say with pension etc. as well as an extended perios of time you can be absent.
11.Generally, dual nationals of the UK and the EU, whether by birth or
naturalisation, are covered by the Withdrawal Agreement if they have
exercised free movement rights by the end of the transition period. Dual
nationals who acquire nationality of their host state after the end of the
transition period are also covered, if they exercised free movement rights by
the end of that period. Dual nationals who have never exercised their free
movement rights are not covered by the full scope of the Withdrawal
Agreement.
Apologies if this had been asked but haven’t found it in a search of the site.
We applied in January under the previous CDS website which was then closed in lieu of the new one which has recently opened. We had an email at the time telling us that we were in the system and that we wouldn’t need to apply again.
However, I am getting very twitchy about waiting as we have had no email or letter telling us what to do next. Also our circumstances have changed - we were salaried at the time and since have become micro entrepreneurs.
Should I apply under the new system or wait it out? (If my nerve holds out!)
Hi Vivien
I have friends who applied just before that old portal closed… and they are waiting, anxiously, too…
Like you they have the email, telling them they’re in the system… and now must simply wait for an appointment.
That appointment will come… but everything is taking its time.
The new site categorically says NOT to use it if you have already done an application on the “old” site…
you’ve got that first email and that is your proof that all will indeed be well…
keep smiling…
Wait it out, you should hear from the prefecture shortly. They are processing in order and the No Deal portal closed in January so you would have been oneof the later ones. They are estimating a month to process this back log before starting on the new application so i would think you should hear by the middle of November. If you haven’t by the end of next month you could call yoru prefecture or send an email to the gouv.fr email address for Brexit applications.
I’ve a friend who applied end October 2019 and they’v e been offered today as their date… but they’re in UK on hols until mid november and have asked for a later appointment… still waiting to hear on that.
so for those who applied in January 2020… there is still possibly quite a wait to endure…
