Claiming UK state pension

Has he phoned them? Much easier than using the online portal

Yes he has and I agree, it’s much easier (when he can find where he’s hidden the paperwork ). They still want to know a few things that surprised me though - why do you want to know anything beyond his NI payments, which they already have, and a bank account to pay the money into???

Yes I had to print out at least 21 pages which I then filled in with black pen and sent registered post to the DWP at the address for overseas claimants (Wolverhampton I think it is). They already had all my UK work details since I did saturday jobs before I was even 16 so was not asked for any wage slips. You cannot apply sooner than 4 months before your 66th birthday date. For my french pension, that was done via Carsat and Argirc-Acco and had nothing absolutely to do with anything in the UK regarding pensions and because it is my last competant state where I worked, I am under the french health and pension system so no S1. The french side pay up 2-3 months after your birthday and this has all happened in the past 18 months for both countries. Going back to the UK application forms, it was ridiculous as every other page keeps asking for your french address and birth date but they do give you a whole page where you can put anything down in writing that you think can help your case. I also get widow’s pension entitlement for late OH before he was self employed (that pays nothing) and had to send his death certificate along with all the pages.

I am guessing the reason for requesting last payslip is to reduce fraud, but I agree, all that is needed is the record of NI payments which they have. Good old administration!!!

It was they who sent my list of previous employment and payments to me inthe first place ages ago now. Seems some don’t know their a*ses from their elbows in uk admin.

He may have to sit on the phone listening to horrid music for 30 minutes but phoning is the way to go.

I got mine last year and it was a relatively short call . There was stuff I didn’t have but the woman on the other end found questions that worked around these gaps. All in all quite painless, and got pension and S1 promptly afterwards.
