Declaring Uk bank accounts

Thought I’d just point out you can not have both a Livret A & Livret Bleu it has to be one or the other.

If the overseas PayPal account is backed by. French bank, you don’t need to declare it.

cor, that was 4 years ago…

So I also need to declare a Paypal account (which I also haven’t used in years)? How about a Revolut account? I use the to sometimes transfer money between UK and France, but it’s a virtual card.

I use Revolut and declared the account as it is a UK bank with Sterling and a Euro wallet. You can get your account number IBAN sort code etc from the app. I also researched their proper name and address and included that on the form. I didn’t declare the Euro wallet separately as the funds are held in the underlying account in the currency.
As for Paypal, if it is a UK account then strictly speaking yes I guess so. Mine is a French PP account and no funds are placed there - it’s just a convenience tool (which I don’t use any more) as most merchants these days accept on-line payments via my French bank account debit card anyway.

this is never ending :frowning: I’ll have to go and look for those now! Thanks again

You don’t need to declare a Paypal account if it is linked with a French bank account.

You pointed that out before and Graham agreed with you.

Whoops sorry, I forgot that!

I have not declared a current account which I have had since 1954. I have lived in France since 1999 and as I receive no interest on the account I considered it irrelevant .
If I declare it now , what fine will I receive?
Alternatively if I switch Banks in UK and declare the new one opened in 2025 is this a better plan?
Would I be asked if I previously held an account

The authorities won’t think that it’s irrelevant because it’s not interest that they’re interested in it’s financial regularity.

Thanks David but what about the penalty for declaring now after a number of years

I have no idea. You really need to either speak to a tax expert or your local tax office.

Many thanks

Unfortunately this could be painful - depending on your local tax office. Some friends of ours had religiously declared all their UK bank accounts, then one year one of the accounts was accidentally omitted from the list. We can’t remember exactly how much they were fined but it was in excess of 2,000 euros.

Just quietly declare it in your next tax return.
This is what we did and it was fine.
A colleague who proactively contacted the tax office and ‘fessed up received hefty fines.

If you don,t need the account, just close it,i don,t think you would be able to switch to another UK bank and open an account now because of Brexit.Other than that,be careful about offering them the info, they should be understanding that you didn,t withold the info for financial gain, but knowing what it is like here they might issue a fine.

Many thanks,I think that’s my only way and I hope and pray. it’s ok

I wouldn,t worry or panic too much,if it hasn,t come to light in over 25 years the chances are it probably won,t,the French authorities are very intrusive, but after Brexit i am not sure that they have the same powers to be so intrusive.

Money laundering laws are outside anything that Brexit had influence over.
