Just because you cannot hear a vegetable scream doesnt mean they dont feel pain. All food is murder from the pesticides used to the harvesting machines that kill other small animals.
Eek never thought of that! Normally get chupachups though so that’s OK!
I live in a small town in Charente which has a population of around 4000.
Our one and only butcher closed a year or so ago.
My guess is that he could not compete with the two large supermarkets that the town has.
Meat is murder? What do you eat? Vegetables? I hope you don’t murder insects growing your vegetables. Murder is murder, premeditated
You can always trust the work of a surrealist
Does it make it better or worse that I’d comfortably commit that murder myself, rather than pass it off to someone else?
The butcher’s a convenient hitman…
Haha…I’m showing my age I guess
…it’s a reference to a Smiths album from the mid 80’s…
(I’m not a vegetarian, but try not to eat too much meat and never duck, squid, octopus and anything resembling cat food (foie gras for example)).
Glad you pointed that out - I would have otherwise assumed you aligned with Morrissey on that.
after a hectic/nerve-wracking at times… weekend… I’ve finally got time to wander SF and this thread has had me chuckling…
as always, it’s obvious that people are very, very different in their ways and their likes and dislikes.
I thoroughly enjoy a wide variety of foodstuffs and local produce is great !
Happy munching Everyone…
Never met the man but I understand he’s not too pleasant now.
But…this has got to be one of the best songs ever…kinda sweet, sad and happy all in one go and Jonny Marr is supreme in this.
There is a light that never goes out.
Wow…off topic or what but whatever
I’m impressed with the respect of posters on this thread for the beliefs of others.
I don’t know very much about Halal meats but it is my understanding that the animals must be bled. I also understand from a sheep breeder that animals who are stressed when slaughtered have a physical reaction that makes the meat go hard and it doesn’t taste as good. I think many Muslim practices were developed for the hot dry conditions of the desert and that is why they don’t eat pork as it spoils very quickly. A bit of tolerance and understanding on both sides surely goes a long way.
I used to do exactly the same. I think the English, used to the sort of spice levels found in a curry do tend to overspice a tagine. For chicken, I use a home made ras-el-hanout with added tumeric, saffron, black pepper and just a touch of ground nutmeg. For lamb it’s only a little different. In moderation I find this makes a lovely flavoursome tagine.
Yes, they are killed by having their throat cut with a wide, very sharp, knife which is very quick. And it is allowed for them to be pre-stunned.
Much debate over most humane method as the non halal approach is to hang animals by their feet on a conveyor belt type thing and then stun them.
Also pigs wouldn’t do well in hot dry conditions, they like damp to roll in and keep their skins moist.
Similar skin makeup to humans I believe, hence why its used in some burns cases (especially WW2).
Muslims don’t eat pork because they consider pigs to be “unclean” animals.
Well they do eat everything including carrion. And do get lots of worms. But they themselves are super clean.
