The mouse should work when plugged into the OTG and into the tablet, the keyboard is rechargeable and has a battery built in and if I remember correctly (as I am out and about at the moment) there is a light on the top right comes on when fully charged where the caps lock light is, there is a power, charge , Bluetooth and caps lock light.
I have the tablet on charge at the moment, a bit alarming that it only had 60% this morning, I didnāt time the usage yesterday but it wasnāt continuous hours, and it canāt be used on charge if the mouse is required at the same time, and it is.
Have to wait for the tablet to finish charging, it is on 80% now and it says another half hour, and I canāt charge the keyboard till it is finished because there is only one cable supplied.
Did you switch it off or has it been on all that time, it uses power regardless of wether your using it or not, phones, tablets, laptops are all the same, they wonāt get any more than 6-7 hours if in use as the screen uses a lot of power, more hours in standby.
I think I did, but the on off button is difficult to find and use.
The good news is that I have finally found settings and paired it to the Bluetooth keyboard.
So I will see how I go with it but with my laptop I charged it as I used it, impossible with this, and impossible to charge the keyboard at the same time.
The keyboard goes into sleep mode when not in use and lasts ages, to use the charge port and mouse at the same time you need one of the cables below or get a rechargeable Bluetooth mouse like in the link below to do away with the need for the OTG adapter.
Thanks again, just going to have a look at those links in a minute. For the moment the tablet is fully charged and I am charging the keyboard, which I think I have managed to select as my default but with the option of the onscreen one at the same time, but it is all very confusing.
Lots to get used to, not least the little fold up stand at the back which keeps collapsing on me.
Whatever happens, one major criticism is the fact that for old eyes and fingers the minute and almost invisible in black (like the surrounds) on off switches for the keyboard and mouse are very difficult to cope with. Pretty sure from experience with my computerās one the mouse at least can be left on all the time, but not sure about the keyboard. The switch for the tablet is almost a secret too and I at first thought you need a fingernail to press it but now think that a long press with a finger tip does the trick. Also, I may have left it switched on all night because I now see that a long press when on produces some choices on the screen, one of which is the off button.
Itās like anything, itās always a new learning curve whether itās Windows, Android or Linux, you get so used to the ways of the system your used to.
So, re the first link you gave me, I can put the charge cable into one leg and the OTG into the other and then put the whole caboose into the charging port which will charge the tablet while at the same time work with the mouse and, of course, the keyboard. Do I have that right?
It occurs to me that now I have understood the switch off procedure I can do what I do at present and charge the tablet, and keyboard when I am not using them, without the need to buy this thing.
In the first weeks I had my first ever smartphone (recently) I nearly threw it out the window on more than one occasion! You have my sympathy.
Heaven forbid Sue, I am more than ever convinced never to have a smartphone.
An author of my aquaintance wrote, back in 2008,
āiāve got a great ideaā said Bill, ātake the sprocket, attach it to the dongle, feed the chain round thatā, pause for effect, ābut transversely; we can then effectively alter the direction of travel thus making the whole thing reverberate within the drum.ā He drew a breath, watching for understanding to dawn.
āYesā came the reply, ābut will it work?ā

You have that right, If it was me I would for roughly the same price go for the rechargeable Bluetooth mouse, it and the keyboard probably would only need charged once a month
You donāt stand the chance of damaging the usb C port on the tablet if you use it on your lap with any movement of the OTG as the usb C port is quite small and delicate compared to the bigger usb A original and just charge the tablet with the main cable daily.
My wife uses hers at a table and I had a spare splitter cable so itās not an issue for her, either set up will work perfectly well.
I think Iāll experiment with seeing if, under my normal usage, the longevity of the charge is such that I can use it adequately between charges. If that proves a problem, Iāll go for that adapter then.
is the keyboard working now.
Hereās an alternative solution
My wife found Android extremely un-intuitive, however Windows phones were available and well priced at the time, and that was much better for a new user, far more obvious and intuitive. Eventually she had to transition to Android and now generally copes fine.
Yes it is thanks @Griffin36 and I have been experimenting with it without the mouse, tapping the screen to highlight something and then using the keyboard to continue. Although I am not a fan of on screen keypads, this one is larger with better spacing so I might be ableto live with that if there is not much space to work in.
Incidentally there is a separate plastic screen in the box with 2 very small stickers on it. One says it is an upper lens protector and to be peeled off before application. The other one says please peel it off after application. It is a bit obvious where it goes but how it stays there and why it exists I have no idea.
Are you familiar with this?
They are screen protectors to stop scratching the screen, my ones have on on and a spare one in the box.
You peel one side and once you have cleaned the screen with the wipe provided you apply it to the screen, once itās applied you peel off the other side.
Lots of videos on you tube. You should have one on it just now.
Well that was easy, not. Typical of my luck, I carefully followed the instructions on the video, using a cloth I already had for cleaning screens I cleaned the screen beforehand. Then carefully placed the protector in its correct position after removing the first sticker but then, unlike the video, multiple air bubbles appeared all over the screen. Tried to chase them out carefully with my cloth, no luck, so followed the video again and lifted the protector gently but guess what? The bloody bubbles appear to be under the screen.
I should have left well alone, I have never scratched a screen in my life, now I have a bubbly one.
I did say you would already have one on I would take the one off you have just put on and bin it.
