We have recently been through the entire process of the selection and installation of a new sewage system, and last week had the final (successful) sign off/inspection on behalf of SPANC. We were replacing a non conforming traditional fosse system with a MicroStation.
What really struck me was how central the (I assume) obligatory Étude is to the whole process…SPANC and their technical partners here deferred absolutely to any and all the recommendations set out in the etude. SPANC also declined to recommend any system, or brand/make, again deferring entirely to the advice in the etude.
For us the etude unlocked the appropriate type of system to put in, (several types were deemed unsuitable due to the soil type and also space constraints). The etude specialist also provided a list of (government) pre approved systems that were appropriate for our circumstances.
Of course how SPANC operates could very much differ from region to region. I was though surprised by how “hands off” they w…
We have been through the whole process in the last year…here are three links to various posts that will hopefully help, including photos fyi.
We too (like probably many others) have a non conforming fosse (‘grey’ water goes straight into fields). All our artisans (builders, gardeners etc) without exception said they would do nothing, and wait for SPANC/SIAEPA (relevant agencies) to catch up with you. That didn’t sound either sensible or the right thing to do to our ears. We are putting in an approved model of MicroStation at considerable expense (€13k).
Interestingly we have just received notification of a proposed contrôle of the existing fosse sceptique by SPANC/SIAEPA giving us a time, date and requiring sight of a plan/diagram, invoices for emptying/maintenance, and telling us to ensure removal of any soil, lawn or flower pots preventing access to the fosse for inspection. What is slightly bizarre is that the contrôle letter is actually signed by the very person we’ve involved from SPANC/SIAEPA to approve our plans for the replacement MicroStation! She has agreed to cancel the contrôle on the basis that the fosse won’…
Cost about 11500€ + 550€ for the Etude. The latter is given huge deference by SPANC and their technical partners, if our experience is anything to go by…ie if the Etude or it’s author says X, then SPANC will accept it as gospel…
@Corona We’ve had a MicroStation Graf EasyOne installed last year, see link. Our clay geology and small garden size did not permit the installation of a classic, traditional fosse
Absolutely no complaints. One single regard is all that is visible, plus an attractive nou that is being planted up to receive the treated water. Minimal disturbance to garden/lawn when installing it, now completely grassed over. Seems effective and efficient…we have taken on an annual maintenance contract with manufacturers agents…so far so good re MicroStation.
Hope this might help…
