Looking for reliable artisans to turn garage into gite

Hi Julie, I certainly would be interested. I think it might be a bit far for him though? I am between Eymet and Miramont de Guyenne. It would be great if he would be willing to quote, so I wait to hear from you? Thanks so much.

Hi Martin

So I can ask him what is your postal code ?

Thanks
Julie

Thanks a lot. Postal code is 47800 Agnac.

Thanks for sharing that photo - what a great property!

Your Gare looks in better shape than the Sourdeval specimen, which still has the granite pissoir within easy access, though the entrance has recently been bricked up :confused:

But I rather like the scabby facade where some of the concrete render has been knocked off to give the stone walls a shabby chic leprous look. When the tracks were taken up the full length was converted to une Voie Verte for randonneurs, cyclists, riders and joggers, all the way eventually to Mont St Michel. It’s quite beautiful as it is shaded by trees and offers some wonderful views over the steep wooded VallĂ©e de la SĂ©e.<

I think it is a brilliant idea to make the old tracks a Voie Verte. They did the same here in Canada where I live when they pulled up the narrow gauge tracks. The look of the building is great if you don’t live in it. The granite Pissoir would be a conversation piece if it was left in place. Have to have a look around the property

Love railway architecture! Brilliant house.

We have a voie verte here along quite a length of what used to be the Paris-Lyon-Marseille track. Only one station, which is now occupied, but lots of bits and pieces including many tunnels which are good fun (automatic lighting thankfully, as some are very long!).

Ah, Granville.
Have flown in to the aérodrome de Granville-Mont-Saint-Michel on a number of occasions in my light aircraft from the UK. Wonderful place and happy memories

Nice aircraft, has a docile wet-nose doggy look to it in profile, but with its tongue lolling out eagerly for walkies in the clouds with you, @Graham_Lees :hugs::smiley:

She was a delight to fly, very docile - she and we spent many hours in the air together visiting all sorts of very interesting places
sold her to a chap in Norfolk and bought a Comanche

Thank you Peter. I wasn’t thinking, of course it will be with the quarantine rules. What a nightmare for them.

I think Jonathan’s business can operate from home, and the English Shop relies on tariff-free imports to make a small profit on resale, but Jayne is very enterprising and will keep her powder dry until the dust settles after the January deadline/guillotine-drop!

So many non-francophone Anglais rely on the shop as much for help and advice as for tinned custard and Warburton’s Thick Sliced loaves

Interesting that Brexiteers seem to be looking forward to the guillotine drop looking upwards towards the blade

That’s possibly because they want to be sure the guillotine spares their cocks, that being where their brains are located. :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Hello Martin,

Try contacting James Anderson on 05 53 84 25 59 or (UK Mobile) 0044 (0) 780 560 292 or (his wife’s French Mobile) 0780568689

He organises all trades and helped us out at short notice when a previous contractor let us down.

Bonne Chance,

Mel Anthony

Hi Martin Sorry he said it is too far for him - which is a shame he is brilliant Best of luck finding someone

Thanks for getting back to me and trying Julie! I figured it might be a bit much of a commute for him. Kind regards,Martin

I would even go so far as to confirm that if you find an artisan that is available in the short-term, you should seriously ask yourself why this is so.

I can highly recommend Poles-Apart in Montaiqu de Quercy. We have found Genek to be competent, meticulous and capable of bringing fresh ideas to a project. My only reservation is that although he is of Polish origin, he does have a somewhat Mediterranean appreciation of timelines.

Thanks Jef! I think it might be a bit too far for someone from there to commute to Eymet?
