Newcomer to this site and looking to move to France

This threadā€™s starting to look as though it might have Crit Air sticker potentialā€¦

You may have missed it, but I asked earlier, based on the information you gave

The option that you are looking does not exist. A U.K. citizen can apply for a visitorā€™s visa and come as a non working visitor but to open and run a business you would have to apply for a working visa and prove the viability of the business with a business plan. Even then there are probably obstacles. The freedom of movement to live and work in the EU no longer exists for British passport holders. I am no expert but I have close friends who have arrived via the visitorā€™s visa route and close family who have had to give up on the idea of working remotely from France because of the rules, regulations and cost of doing so. Fabianā€™s reply suggests that the rules have changed and if they have it might open up the floodgates.

Why has this post been flagged? I read it before; nothing contravenes the T&Cs, unless altered after I read it.

I can confirm that I (the poster) did not alter it.

I now realise that the person mentioned in my comment is a moderator, so maybe that is why.

Although Fabien is a moderator Iā€™m not aware he has actually acted as one. The active moderators are @cat and me. The post was flagged, and I agreed with the flag because of the negative comment directed at Fabien. I would have agreed with the flag pretty much whoever the user targeted was. If you think Fabien sent you an inappropriate DM then Cat is the right person to contact.

I have contacted cat.

The message would have been via the site messaging feature. Usersā€™ email addresses are not even accessible to moderators.

I just checked out of interest since I have had 2 emails today and a fuss is being made. I had an email from Cat / SF about a webinar for getting business visas in France to the email address linked to this SF account. This was presumably generated to all SF users. Around 2 hours later I received an email from FAB / Fabien, advertising the same getting business visas webinar, but this was to my work email that I had previously used to get a quote from FAB. So this suggests, at least in my case, that nothing untoward has happened, the SF email address got SF branded email, and the FAB registered address got FAB branded email.

Yep, I had the same emails. Glad to have received them.

It would be a little strange if so, given the tendencies of Barnierā€™s government, but I am sure it would be good news for many - provided they do not end up with adninistrative complications futher down the line, which would be my fear.

Me too. I think what we have here are the machinations of the Goddess Coincidence, whereby P4PSB interpreted a general email that went to all members as unsolicited advertising by Fabien, because it related to a webinar that happens to be on the same topic as this threadā€¦

Iā€™m following this thread with interest now as the advice given so far contradicts what I was told by URSSAF and a law firm in Paris. Admittedly that was 5 years ago, but it seems strange that things would be so easy now considering just how many bloody hoops they made me jump through.

My UK employerā€™s social security payments were also waaaay higher than when I was on the UK payroll, resulting in me taking a 20% pay cut just so their contributions to URSSAF matched what they paid HMRCā€¦ But Iā€™m not bitter about it :face_with_symbols_over_mouth:

I no longer work for that company so these changes wouldnā€™t benefit me, but it would be useful to know what the situation is so I donā€™t give the wrong advice in future.

Oh, I forgot to say. I live in 33, just north of Bordeaux. I also know Limoges as have got family living there. Feel free to ask any questions about either.

I also lived in 06, if you are considering further southā€¦ But that was 20 years ago so things will have undoubtedly changed since I was there.

There is conflicting advice as to whether you can or canā€™t work remotely.

I am just baffled. Itā€™s one thing to hammer out a few emails sat in a cafĆ© in France, but to actually work seriously? If one is self employed then surely should have a French structure with visa to match, paying contributions and so on. And if salaried then what happens at the end of the year when one declares income? Might someone notice that no employer contributions? And for sickness cover, pensions, maternity? And why does URSSAF have a process for foreign employers with employees in France if people can work remotely totally freely?

And if one applies to CPAM for a social security number as inactive when actually earning income isnā€™t that fraud? As CSM is on passive income so earnings wouldnā€™t be taken into account.

Jane! You of all people (youā€™ve been here for yonks and you are now actually French to boot !), should know that whilst there is a rule for everything in France, they are almost always circumvented :joy:

Personally Iā€™m surprised that there isnā€™t a decree relating to getting out of bed in the morning but thatā€™s another threadā€¦

I thought there is!
