I worked with an ex NHS radiographer who said the staff with degrees were only interested in money and promotion.
Nurses need to know about maths
Yes I agree, but are you saying that the current cohort of nurses struggle with the maths involved in the job and need to learn more maths at school?
No , it was the way you lumped them in with jobs that aren’t necessarily dependent on maths skills
doesn’t math feature in every walk of life? It’s inescapable
OK. Actually I do agree that most jobs need maths skills, and even if your job does not then you do in your personal life. But, comuting and analytics? My issue is that I think most people have learned sufficient maths by the age of 16 to be able to build on their numeracy skills as required later in life. If by the age of 16 they cannot add, subtract, divide; multiply, work out proportions and percentages and ratios etc, then I think it is because they do not have the aptitude and will never be any good at maths.
I understood that the post 16 learning will be on the lines of computing and applied mathematics which not everybody needs.
Why are you asking me I didn’t make the original comment
Particularly arithmatic, yes, not so sure about the others.
sadly, you didn’t quote what/who you were responding to so, not being a psychic, I simply responded to what you wrote
Sorry to hear about your psychic skills that must make life very difficult for you
I was under the impression that if you reply directly under a post it is realised you are answering the one above, however so you realise I am answering you I’ve clicked the reply button
The only sure way is to use the reply button, otherwise it can be a guessing game.
I will be sure to do so in the future
not at all correct
I’ve been using this site for 11 years and know how it works, thank you.
No need for the attitude, I was saying where I made my mistake and have promised I won’t do it again
I was advised that that was the case too @graham , even if you click the grey reply button it doesn’t identify the person you are addressing unless someone else posts in between.
However, normally I prefer to quote so there is no misunderstanding.

normally I prefer to quote so there is no misunderstanding
As I have done here… and that is the most competent way to do it given the way the site is configured.
There are of course occasions where the post is effectively “widowed” with no clue at all to whom or what it is aimed at. There was some discussion on SF as requested by @james some time ago about this setting and the consensus at the time was to leave the setting as it now is.
If the consensus of current posters is for it to change, then raise a topic under Forum Support so that it can be looked at again. Simples!
by clicking on Reply directly under your post… it is clear to me I’m replying to YOU.
by clicking on the lit-up Reply button (which looks blue on my screen) … I’m just posting/replying to the world in general…
is that about it ?? although, for the life of me, my screen is now not showing any identification re reply… aaargh.
(I’m off to make supper… )

is that about it ??
Nope! it’s more than that… it’s all about intent and the posters intent is not always obvious.
I’ll leave you all to thrash this out, I thought I’d found an easy-peasy way of showing it… but no…
over and out
That’s the mechanics of it. Hitting the button that specifically replies to the post will tell the poster they have been replied to and by whom. Hitting the blue button is a general reply, although it may be aimed at the previous poster as shown by intent in the text of the reply.
