"Ryanair leaves Bordeaux after stuffing itself"

…and from Toulouse

Don’t think so and wouldn’t want to go to Bristol as family up London way.

Well at those prices, not that many takers I would not have thought

Especially with the cost of the train between Bristol and London. When I regularly made that journey for work, it really used to hack me off that the train seat was making more than I was.

I don’t mind Billi. It’s so quick and easy compared to having to navigate Halls A & B in the main terminal.

I also noticed when I was there last week that they’ve now got automatic check-in machines at the Easyjet gates, so you hardly even speak to someone these days until you get to passport control. That’s not an improvement though, imo.

Well, you did mention Bristol in your post, so thought that was important to you :man_shrugging:

Indeed. Toulouse flights are all year round which is great, but I live pretty much half way between Toulouse and Beziers and prefer Beziers because it’s a small airport and don’t have to navigate the ring road in Toulouse which can be a nightmare.

Ryanair is **not ** ceasing to operate flights from Bordeaux - we need some clarification here. Their scheduled flights will continue - but O’Leary has been threatening the Airport administrators with the closure of Ryanair’s workshop, mechanics, and location of two aircraft there. This is because the Admin have announced further passenger tolls on all airlines using this Airport. These get added to the ticket price - anathema to O’Leary!
Do you want to place bets on who will win this shoot-out? Wait and see!
Meanwhile, BA announced that they are returning a weekly service from Southampton to Bergerac.

Really, try booking a flight after October.

This may be O’Leary playing hardball but the numerous news sites reporting it seem to believe it’s legit…

When I lived at Brsl the connections to Lunnen were many and cheap. In fact, if you got in early enough [about 2 weeks] MegaBus would do you the round trip for £2.50 [50p booking fee for however many tix you bought]

When MegaBus moved the 2nd Brsl pick-up point from Tesco 5 mins from me to Uni West of England I used Nat Express. Their coaches are much more comfortable and, given a good lead-time, very cheap.

They will stop if asked at a point on West Cromwell Rd, close to the junction with Warwick Rd, handy for west/central London and a <10 min walk to Earl’s Ct tube.

If only there was a service from Carpiquet to UK - Eastleigh, for example. Seems a no-brainer. Otherwise, based in Normandy, to fly anywhere it’s Paris, Rennes or Nantes.

Chalair fly 3x/week Carpiquet to Southampton over the summer.

The Luftwaffe used to do that run quite frequently in the 1940s I believe…

Don’t give Ryanair any ideas about how to cut landing fees!!!

There was always a certain snobbishness about Bordeaux airport. Stick the budget airlines in a windowless box - meanwhile there’s a main terminal which is all fur coat no knickers. Shiny glass - open space - deserted …airside its a tatty and small. From the outside it looks huge - inside is just odd

Agreed, it’s a funny place. A lot of potential that’s not being realised currently. I find Billi okay if you’re the one travelling, but it’s true that waiting to pick someone up who’s arriving at Billi isn’t a pleasant experience… you’re stuck outside with nowhere to sit.

The extension of the tram was a good move but I suspect that has little to do with the airport’s management though.

And to Pompey, where my aunt, serving in the WRNS, was badly injured by Goering’s mob.

She was never able to have children and died an early death.

Her brother in law, my father’s younger brother, did not survive the debacle that was the sinking of HMSs Glorious, Acaster and Ardent.

So, no cousins for me.

We actually live less than an hour from Merignac and use Ryanair regularly since my wife has to fly back for work every 2 weeks or so.
My understanding is that Merignac want to reduce the number of “cheap” operators- they don’t want to be seen as a “cheap” airport and instead want to attract more business from the likes of Lufthansa BA etc
For us Ryanair were ideal - we could fly into Edinburgh or Manchester
The options are not really options - too far south and links to the north west of England too long

We’ve until October to figure out an alternative but no idea what that is

Sounds like a business model for disaster :joy:
