EDF really wants to use all the red days before Feb 1st price changes ??

There are rumours that Tempo will become less advantageous and that EDF’s tariff Zen Fixe HP/HC may become the one to go to.

Interesting…

I just checked using our consumption data &, currently, Tempo is still around 300€ per year cheaper than the offer you mention. Clearly, that could change…

Zen fixe HP/HC looks to be almost exactly the same as a current Tempo Jour Blanc.

So, unless the cost of a Tempo Jour Bleue increases considerably, Option Tempo HP/HC would still offer cheaper electricity for 300 days a year than Zen Fixe.

Probably not a big deal for most, but still a significant saving in the summer months for anyone operation gites etc.

Yes, & as I said above, based on real world consumption I am 300€ per year under what Zen HP/HC would cost (at the time of writing).

Just to be pedantic, Tempo is always dual tarif i.e. HC/HP.

…& year round if you charge an EV at home, even on red HC.

5 in a row it looks like :scream:

Yes, RED day Friday 17/01/2025.

The place to be this week, watching the Red Days goose-step across the calendar all this week, is Blighty.

Ironically, the beautiful country house where I was staying had the boiler u/s for a couple of days so very similar to J.R.'s at home - no heating, no h.w.

Now warm and cosy in Twikkers.

Goddammit, that’s pizza night 2 weeks in a row :rofl::rofl:

RED day tomorrow, Monday 20/01/2025.

They’re certainly hammering them in.

I suspect tomorrow will be the last red day for a week or two.

I think so too, I’m actually surprised about tomorrow as temps going up a lot this week.

I wonder what happens on days like today, mums madly washing and drying everything after not doing anything all week. I only managed one load on timer this week so today it is!!

Sorry I am late to this discussion but where have you seen that? Currently it’s about 60p a day.

On the Ofgem website it says they are going to “consult in early 2025” about introducing tariffs with zero or low standing charges, possibly for introduction next winter, but it doesn’t seem to be a firm policy change yet.

…and being able to put the oven on to properly cook, bake bread etc, plus in our case charge the EV (ours is down to only 20km battery as we haven’t been able to charge since last Sunday), plus the luxury of putting the toaster on for breakfast…

Can’t you charge overnight? The HC even on red days us still lower than the base tarif. I reckon the toaster shouldn’t use more than 10c of electricity (3 mins @3kw).
I still use my kettle and toaster on red days, and air fryer instead of the big oven.

Even white or red HC is a good deal.

Because its been wall to wall sunshine here, we’ve had loads of solar power so have been able to operate pretty much as normal. This is one of the great advantages of having the rooftop solar. Did three loads last week and they all dried outside as the sun was so strong even though the air temp was low.
Edit: Not fully as normal. For evening meals been cooking food during the day that can be simply reheated later or using the slow cooker or eating stuff that doesn’t need cooking.

Chris it was on moneysavingexpert.com that they have made progress on this - about 5 weeks ago istr.

@Hairbear says toaster is ok even on a Jour Rouge as we use them for so short a period.

So I’ve lightened up this year and used mine on Jours Rouge and it really hasn’t made that much difference.

Though if it’s true that EDF (ie the French gov) is plannng to fleece Tempo users many of whom have been recruited by campaigns to get people to sign up in the last 2 or so years, by narrowjng the saving in return for the inconvenience of extremely expensive days at particularly cold times of year, then I will certsinly review the numbers as to whether their reduction for the inconvenience is still enough incentive.
