The joys of being a landlord

Horrific. I can vouch it is a nightmare here. And last week we were informed that the situation is about to change for the worse, giving even more power to the people who rent.

This isn't particularly unusual David. The tenants can't be kicked out until after the 31st march and where children are involved the social services won't get too involved. The laws are pretty clear and the family won't be evicted. Maybe the 'council' can offer alternative accommodation but the family cannot be put onto the streets during the 'trève hivernale'. The fault is with the proprietors who should have known better. The huissier should have pointed this out to avoid this possibility

Latest joy for me was to check out a tenant a few months ago, and I decided not to re let at present. Recently I decided to redecorate internally and the macerator type loo was found to be blocked. Got a plumber in. The cause was a massive amount of dog hair which had destroyed the motor and filled the pipes. Guy had been clipping his dog in the bathroom and flushing the hair away. I was a twit for allowing a dog but who on earth would be so foolish or just plain selfish to do such a thing? He's on CAF and has no money- he's gone as well so it's me who got stuffed. Never any dogs in future- although I have one myself.

Not just landlords. My parents bought a house in the UK when we were kids. They arrived at the new house complete with removal lorry to find the vendors still there with their four children. Apparently they had massive debts and had nowhere to go - technically they were squatters and couldn't be evicted as they had children. The fact that my parents had children didn't count as we had been staying with relatives while they did the house move, so my parents were simply adults with nowhere to live. Took four months to get them out and well, the state of the house when they did move out.....

Not entirely in agreement there the renter always seems to be the one with the least worries.

My object dave was to illustrate the problems of letting in France.I find it mildly amusing when you compare the rightd of lessors in France and the same position in UK. In UK renters have virtually no rights whatesoever whereas here how ever badly behaved they do.

It can happen anywhere not just here. Would make one think very carefully if proposing to rent out privately. I am not sure but I thought in the UK if this sort of thing happened and you had let through an agency the problem lies with them, obviously though a great inconvenience to the owner. Seems to be the same whenever one reads of such a situation that actually nobody will take a decision as to how to proceed. By the time the courts get involved it is months down the line and the tenants have got the extended stay they wanted.
