Alcohol free wine

Agree 100%. There are some tolerable whites and a rosé from Geisen in NZ, and so far almost all of the sparkling AF wines I’ve tried (here in the States) are pretty good. The fizz is a good distractor, and they do have true flavor. The AF beers are so far ahead of the wine industry on this!

such folk are merely showing their pig-ignorance

Non-alcoholic drinks are always offered as a matter of course at all the functions OH and I attend, (from neighbourhood get-togethers, all social clubs and right up to “official happenings” )

Agreed but looking at the bit you have taken from my post it it has made my comments seem confrontational which it certainly wasn’t. I suppose its just one of the problems with online conversation rather than face to face

Because it indicates the likely taste to possible buyer. That it will be wine like, rather than sweet blackberry juice. There are thousands of soft drinks and the vast majority are on the sweet side, if not just liquid sugar. So having something labelled AF Wine, or Beer or Gin gives an idea of what to expect.

Thankfully, we have artisan fruit drinks locally… no added sugar, just delicious mixed-fruits or single-fruit… fabulous.

and the variations of Jus de Raison (no added sugar) are also interesting…

It’s obvious that we all have differing tastes and preferences… and, frankly, there’s something to meet everyone’s taste I would have thought. :+1: :+1:

Unfortunately, I’ve yet to taste an acceptable alcohol free red wine. And I have feeling that if ever I do, it’ll be on the pricey side.

Ah, you’re testing a market which I don’t bother with…

And sweet - even with no added sugar.

We were with friends in Spain who don’t drink alcohol any more and they invited us out for “a beer” at a local bar. It was excellent. The first time OH and I have drunk non-alcoholic beer in about 30-40 years, when it was ghastly. The improvement is amazing. And I forgot to ask the brand.

I agree, I want to know what I am drinking and I was drinking an excellent beer.

I have always loved a drink, its also very much part of Aussie culture. My off button is bit dodgy though! Last year I decided to do dry January but then upped it to a 100 day challenge (ended up doing 154 days). My birthday was within the first 2 weeks and having a pretty decent AF bubbly was awesome, I got the nice glass and feeling of having a drink without the alcohol. Ditto a week later at a friends 40th, I took a bottle with me so still felt like everyone else in a way I wouldn’t of with a coke zero or a juice (which I can’t drink more than about half of glass of due to the sugar, even in no added sugar juice). To answer your question having AF options makes stopping much easier!

I agree with the others flat AF wine is awful!

Yes I think you may be right on the fizz. I don’t drink much beer due to the carbs, hopefully the wine industry will catch up with the strongly growing Dover movement and the younger generations drinking far less than those before.

Oh and I’m starting another 100 days in the next day or two as a health / lifestyle choice.

as a matter of interest… do many of you drink Water with your meal??? I was at a local function and noticed that several people were refusing the wines which were being served, but swiftly opened the bottles of water (fizzy and still)
(I had a little of everything  )

I’m a bit weird but tend to drink nothing while I’m actually eating.

not weird at all… as kids, we weren’t allowed to drink (water) until we’d almost finished our meal… Dad didn’t want us “filling-up” on water and not eating the food.

There was never wine except at Christmas when a small glass of ginger wine would be passed around so each of us could take a small sip… a very small sip (well, it was a very small glass and we were 4 kids)

We both drink water with meals, and wine

We’d always assumed this combination was compulsory in France…

Exactly, breakfast, lunch and dinner :wine_glass:

Surely not for breakfast? A Buck’s fizz with a splash of gin would go better with bacon and eggs then a coffee chaser.

Congratulations!!! That is fantastic! I’ll be 13 months AF this coming week.

Has Anyone found an acceptable alcohol-free red wine ???
