Aren't we all glad that Biden's finally got the message

Was just watching Fr24 news footage of Biden slowly and carefully stepping down from Airforce 1 - whereas in still photos, he looks far fitter than Trump, here he looked like an old frail person - yes, I know Trump only ever walks from his golf cart to the tee (and a golf cart seems to be the only vehicle he’s ever driven) but the optics have been in Trump’s favour - now I want to read about brutal Democrat attacks along the lines of old man, fake tan, fake hair, fake religion? ‘Putin’s poodle’, cheating on your wife and on America - IOW give the guy some of his own style of rhetoric.

Biden was often too ‘old school’ polite and generous, but times have changed.

The Trump team has already prepared opposition research books on Ms. Harris, and has similar dossiers on other Democrats who could become the nominee if Mr. Biden were to drop out of the race.

But the bulk of the preparations so far have been focused on Ms. Harris, including a recently concluded poll testing her vulnerabilities in a general election contest, according to the two people. The Trump team’s attention on Ms. Harris is based on its assumption that if Democrats were to bypass the first Black woman to serve as vice president, it would drive even deeper divisions in the party and risk alienating their base of Black voters.

Trump allies have also begun examining the records of Democratic governors who are considered potential running mates for Ms. Harris. Advisers to the former president are paying especially close attention to Gov. Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania — the state the Trump campaign is most focused on winning to block the Democrats’ path to the White House.

They say KH simply cannot win. I think the ad campaign highlighting Trump’s cognitive decline offers some hope to turn the tide or am I just being too optimistic.

I think abortion is the strongest argument - it unites Democrats (just discovered ‘unites’ is an anagram of ‘unties’!) and many others , particularly undecided female voters ,unlike divisive issues like Israel/Palestine.

That’s a lot of potential votes…

It will unite both sides, and may well be the key factor in Trump’s ability to apparently take over the Christian right.

I am incredulous of the number of people you see writing God save or God bless Trump on Fox News YT videos. You would imagine God had re-written the Commandments.

Those people won’t vote Democrat anyhow, Trump’s already got their votes, so it’s not likely to attract many more votes than already

It is probably the as yet undecided voters that will be important for tipping the balance in what has hitherto been a very close race. A strong Democrat leadership campaign + Team Trump providing more crazy in contrast may well save the day.

US Democrat party election team needs to take gloves off and remember how damaging was the hubristic complete lack of rebuttal by Remain against Leave big lies during UK’s Brexit campaign.

As Frank Bruni put so wonderfully yesterday in NYT

Biden’s exit also scripts a compelling message for his Democratic successor and everyone else in the party. They can — they must — talk about the differences between what Biden is doing now, no matter how reluctant he was to do it, and Trump’s titanically selfish and epically destructive behavior in 2020, when he sought to stay in power by undermining the entire electoral process. They must emphasize the contrast between a president and party that finally dealt with uncomfortable truths and a president and party that have never stopped spinning unconscionable lies.

She’s not the democrat pick yet, though who else they go with given the short notice.

America under Trump this time around will be like Russia under Stalin.

“Right wing Christian” is an oxymoron (I think I have said this previously) - the value sets just don’t overlap.

I totally agree with you.
I think that if anyone of these extreme right wingers met Christ , they would avoid him like the plague.
A man who lived a simple life and put others before himself, hardly MAGA.

It all brings back memories of Brexit, the lies told that split families and ended friendships. My family in the US are gobsmacked when the people they most thought would vote against Trump admitted they are big fans and will vote for him and these are people of all colours and creeds too, not just the redneck religious nutters. Biden is not fit to be president, too old, too blank and too manipulated from behind the scenes plus all the gaffes he keeps making might start WW3

There’s a modern tendency for those on the outside to view Christian things through a liberal, permissive lens. We like Jesus meek and mild, forgiving the woman caught in adultery but not the one that talked about eternal punishment or cleared the temple with a whip.

TBH there seems to be a lot of reading the old testament with terrible things happening by some sections of the church, but a failure to understand it through the new testament. It’s much easier to apply a law with black and white ‘live or die’ lines than to follow a path of grace and forgiveness, while keeping a sensitive conscience.

RFK Jnr? Anyone please.

Odd that that’s not what happened last time Trump was POTUS, isn’t it?

Project 2025

You just beat me to it.
It’s frightening some of the things being proposed, also Trump himself has talked about being a dictator from day one, and overriding the separation of the executive with the judicial branch of government so that he can personally direct the judiciary to persecute whoever he wants.

Don’t really think we need an anti vax conspiracy theory nutjob as US president either.

At the end of the day it’ll be one crackpot or another. Choose your crackpot. Honorable people don’t get rich enough to run for Potus.

Ah, we’re back to the “they’re all as bad as each other” myth.
