Buying from Aliexpress?

If I wanted to buy fake Chinese tat that even Wish.com turned down, AliExpress would be my go to outlet.

Better chance of getting a warranty claim honoured by an eBay seller named “Scammy McScamface”.

Not true!

Xiaomi have a European distribution and sometimes have good offers. I’d wait for an offer and buy direct with a local warranty.

Haha, I’d rate Ali Express better than wish.com, Deal Extreme, Temu and Dino Direct, but maybe not quite as reliable as Bang Good.

AliExpress is a buy with your eyes open. There’s endless fakes - but there are also main manufacturer sites. Chinese approach to copyright applies.

Most stuff is fine but you get the odd suprise. It’s still very cheap for LED lights - in general it’s been fine - except for the set that was obviously 110v despite the labels (we looked like Heathrow for 15 minutes - then they burnt out). But they were so cheap I couldn’t be bothered with a return.

However…in the last few years everyone’s caught up. I’ve found the same stuff on eBay ManoMano or specialist “discount” French sites at less.

For things like Xiaomi products - it’s rarely cheaper than Amazon

Customs duty is still a random experience - but yes they have European warehouses and that speeds up delivery and prevents duty surprises.

Agree - if people offer an answer or opinion that is not quite what you are looking for either ignore it or clearify the information that you are after.

Threads go where they go.

I don’t think I’d ever buy an item which purports to be from a well known mainstream manufacturer such as Xiaomi, Samsung, Apple etc - the odds are very much that it will be an outright knock off or a product which on close inspection is not what you think it is. Either that or if it is genuine it probably won’t be any cheaper than if bought through Amazon.

I have bought quite a bit of stuff from Aliexpress without problem. I would echo Gareth’s advice that you should not spend more than you are prepared to lose and if things do go wrong, well - I normally work on the principle that I will get to keep all the parts but that’s about it.

Would I buy a cheap Android tablet from Aliexpress? - probably not to be honest but that is because cheap Android tablets tend to be pretty rubbish (been there, done that, have the t-shirt). Would I buy a mid-range tablet on AE - maybe  but there aren’t all that many on sale - most are at the cheap end of the market.

I also would tend to stick with generic electronics and IT products - the Chinese are really good at making these and competition keeps the prices very low, also you can find stuff that is simply not available elsewhere (even Amazon and Ebay).

Well, if it needs to be imported, not merely that it comes from China- but, yes, mentally add that 20% before concluding you are looking at a bargain. It will be added when you check out anyway.

I have one of those, I’m very pleased with it. I didn’t buy it via AliExpress though.

After more research, it seems that this tablet was never exported officially and only has a Chinese/English ROM, unlike the non-Pro version, so it’s missing some configuration features for HDR for viewing Netflix and some other popular streaming services and one reviewer warned that the 5G mobile data compatibility might not work in other parts of the world. And the chance of warranty support is very small. But the design, spec., performance, etc., look amazing. Where did you get yours from? I particularly want to use the (optional) pen. Has yours received OTA updates?

I got mine in Darty, as far as I remember. OH!! Maybe it’s non pro? It’s great for Netflix. Miles better than my Samsung galaxy tab A.

So you had a go at me for suggesting you dig around for backgrounds and customer responses and then go and do it. I just tried to give you some ideas of perhaps saving yourself some grief.

Yes, people who had actual dealings with Ali Express. I didn’t have ‘a go’ I just reminded you of my original post, which you either didn’t read fully or ignored.

You must be new to the internet if you think there’s any chance that such a request is going to fly.

I work in the business and run several websites and forums myself - no joke! :+1:

That may be so, but you have also permanently lost the business of a number of people who might have been potential customers, if we ever find out which sites you’re involved in. The world is too small to be un-necessarily rude to people in a community who were not attacking you.

I am baking today, a couple of keto breads and brownies for a large friend who needs to loose weight following his heart attack. His doctors said to cut out carbohydrates but stopped short of the phrase keto diet.

what a kind gesture… any ideas on building-up someone who’s lost a lot of weight after abdominal cancer surgery and subsequent chemo… ??
(she reckons the chemo is absolutely dire…)

Making things extra tasty with herbs and spices they like as chemo tends to make things taste bland and metalic. Clean protein and natural fats not seed oils. Keep sugars low as cancers like sugar. Probably avoid wheat as its inflamatory and probably worse bearing in mind what they have gone through. I would be cautious eating too much fibre as it swells in the stomach/gut and could make passing it unpleasant.
