Buying from Aliexpress?

cheers, I’ll have to give this some careful thought. :+1:

I didn’t know that, but I do know that sugar cane is, because I have seen it. Apparently they can’t even harvest it until it has been incinerated.

Wheat doesnt seem to effect everyone to the same degree, some suffer more than others but its there.

Now that’s what I call disrespectful. But hey, if it makes you feel better…

I’ve been on a keto diet for most of the last 7-8 years after T2 diabetes diagnosis.

I was heading in that direction, high visceral fat as surgeon said. Now more low carb than full keto. Friend is T2 he is the one that didn’t go on keto out of the friends that did. Now a heart attack and 3 stents later he has to to survive for much longer his doctors told him. Problem for him is he has a sweet tooth. Pretty much does the opposite of what he should so friends have asked me to talk/encourage him to change, he is a wonderful bloke who has looked after many so deserves this level of care.

so long as it works for you… but I think it’s not for everyone???
I’m not allowed to diet… just told to “eat healthily” which I have always tried to do anyway.

Recently, a friend went into a diabetic coma… with very nasty results…
seems he’d got fed up with being “careful”…
Anyway, it frightened him (and us) to death… and now we’re all keeping a gentle eye on him.

Thats a generic term its just the way you eat and eating healthly is absolute nonsense based on the food pyramid of the NHS and America. Hijacked by interested food parties. 5 a day was never researched and was the result of food companies and growers getting together. They even trade marked it! Hows that for marketing.

Its not about being careful, its about cutting carbohydrates very simple and you dont go hungry.

 I simply run on a very low sugar threshold, quite naturally, and must not “miss meals”…

Bering the generation I am… I was brought up to eat regular meals with no snacking… enjoy fruit and veg from the garden, eggs from the chickens… few sugary things and certainly no /little processed stuff…

that works fine for me… :+1:

I’ve stuck with that, in the main… and it works…

Actually, in another lifetime, my UK Doctor advised me to eat hard pasta with slow release… and the Company Catering Manager ensured that there was always something “just right” for me on the canteen menu… he was a treasure.
I never “missed” lunch after that… I was honour-bound to walk away from my office… and eat!

I greatly appreciate the deft thread drift initiated by @Stella into the SF standby safety net - Food!

As for Aliexpress and other online sales sites - Caveat emptor! @Gareth advice to risk no more than you are willing to lose is good. Applies equally to gambling.

I’ve ordered from AliExpress 3 times with mixed results.
1 A specific shape and size of cap head screw that I could not find anywhere else. The price was very low (Istr 5€/500 including postage - no other charges levied). They arrived within 2 weeks and they were perfect for the task in hand.
2 A clamp-style ammeter. AliExpress offered very fast delivery from a France-based warehouse. They were true to their word with the 20€ meter being delivered within 36 hours of ordering.
3 COB led lighting strips. Priced at about 25% of my usual supplier’s strips, I thought I’d give them a go. They took about a month to arrive, (again, no import/handling charges etc) and when they did, the quality of the emitted light was very poor. It was almost as if I had bought units that had failed the QC process for the originally designated customer

So in summary, I’d use them if there was a compelling reason, but I’d need to be prepared to junk the goods and buy again from a more local supplier.

OK folks… we’ve calmed down and sanity prevails…

Overall advice: Aliexpress is something to use “with extreme caution”
a bit like Dad on Bonfire Night…

good luck @Vitesse

Looking at buying a pricy bit of equipment, the shipping charges added to the purchase price is only just short of buying from a dealer in Italy who waranty and have spares so going to the Italian Co.

A myth that dietary sugars make any difference though (well, obesity is a risk factor so it’s not completely unrelated).

Put the weapons away guys

All carbohaydrates are sugars not just sugar intake per say. The body changes this into glucose, just another sugar. Body only stores about 5 grams of sugar (glucose) the rest is converted to fat for storage.

Sort of - there’s stuff called glycogen which is a polysaccharide stored by the liver (also skeletal muscle). It can be metabolised to glucose quickly when needed. There’s about 120g of that in the liver and 400g in muscle. Glycogen - Wikipedia

It’s still a myth that dietary sugars or carbs somehow “fuel cancers”.
