Switched to channel 804 tonight to watch bake off extra slice only to get the message it doesn’t exist. Googled it and sure enough, channel 4 has ditched it today! As we cannot get a decent picture for C4 on HD ( all the other old terrestrial channels work fine in HD) Is that it? No more channel 4?
Is that the same as the BBC swapping to HD and having to change our settings?
Yes but channel 4 kept the SD signal as well as the HD…. Until now!
Fit a larger diameter satellite dish.
It used to work but I think the neighbours trees have grown to the point the HD signal pixelates. The dish is on the furthest corner of our house, high up and is bigger than standard. Maybe a chainsaw might sort it
If you’re using a Freesat box and the installation allows you to enter a postcode, put in one from central London. That will select a DVB-S transponder for the London region Channel 4 rather than DVB-S2. It’s that difference that causes reception problems, and not whether it’s an SD or HD channel.
You should be able to get Channel 4 over the internet on something like an Amazon Firestick (might have to use a VPN to fool it that you are in UK though).
Thanks, i will give it a try. We get an HD signal but it cuts out and pixelates
Tried that this evening and it said we were not permitted or something like that- due to area. Loathed to pay for a vpn for one channel
It is an old sky hd box, there doesn’t seem to be a place to enter the postcode
Ah, definitely can’t do that with an old Sky box.

Do you actually have a Sky account or are you just using it for the free stuff. If the latter a modern decoder might help.
We’re in the Var and on the very limit of the satellite footprint. Our old Humax was struggling to pick up CH4 at all, though CH4 +1 was OK. I bought one of these a few months ago and it’s ability to pick up the signal is gar superior to the Humax. We’re back to CH 4 realtime.
You may be able to get it back by using the ‘Add Channels’ feature in the EPG. You need to use the following parameters. Can’t remember now exactly what the format is but it should ask for the following
Frequency 11127
Polarisation Vertical (or maybe just V)
Symbol rate 22000 (or maybe 22K)
FEC 5/6
It may also ask for Modulation which should be DVB-S
That should find one free to air channel which is Channel 4 London.
Fair enough!
Just using it for the free stuff. Cannot understand why more4 and E4 work fine as do itv1, bbc1 and 2 yet channel4 pixelates
We have a non sky HD box somewhere, I will dig it out and try it first
Thanks, I will give it a go
