He doesn’t have to do anything immediately because you are entitled to a certain period of residual cover under the existing arrangements after you close an ME - I think it’s 12 months although it could be 6, but google will be your friend if you desperately need to know.
Normally he will then receive a letter around a months before this period of grace expires, telling him the date on which his rights will end. At that point he will need to apply for healthcare via a different route.
When my OH closed her AE business, nothing changed with healthcare.
