Dado Rail / Architrave / Decorative Moulding

Does anyone know where in France I can buy dado rails similar to those available from Wickes?

BTW I don’t mind whether the material is MDF, pine etc or whether its pre-primed.

Any brico store? Certainly you can get them in our local Briconautes and there is nothing special about it.

@Griffin36 You beat me to it.

I cheated, I was looking at facings when I saw the post :yum:

We found the best selection to be at Castorama when we were looking.

I have looked at all the usual Bricos and seen mouldings of various profiles but none of the classic picture rail. Anyone seen that about?

Try googling “cimaise a lambris” and then looking at the images - might be something there that suits?

Thanks for giving it a go Sue. I’ve been thru’ all those - nothing doing. Like dado rail, perhaps picture rail was originally a predominently British Victorian/Edwardian feature.

I have worked out how to DIY. This moulding, turned to face ‘the wrong way’ will provide a lip that trad picture hooks or, as I have used in the past, IKEA kitchen utensil hooks, will hook on to

Why not buy a router with some suitable bits and make your own?

That takes me back! Last time I heard the word “router” used was by Norm on New Yankee Workshop when we first signed up to Sky.

DIY porn! Never seen such a wonderful workshop.

The thing is, Brian, that tho’ the idea has merit, running off 2.4 lengths is a job for a spindle moulder rather than a router.

I’d have to buy a router table and extension arms to handle those lengths. Ideally the lengths should be as long as poss to cut down [pun intended] on joins.

The DIY m.o. simply involves putting up the 2.4’s with the intended outer face inwards.

I may get a router to make frames for me photies, when I get round to having fun rther than refurb

Ooh - 2.4m at a time would be a bit much!

When I did it I used 1.2m lengths supported between 2 workmates, with the workpiece clamped to a bit of 4x4 for rigidity. I cut accurate shallow lap joints at the ends and after some light sanding the joints were to all intents and purposes invisible.

There are wireless routers about, now. So you’d fix the article and run the router along it?

I’ve got an idea some bricos that offer glasscutting or woodcutting services might also agree to do this.

Very doubtful, Karen.
I’ve only known them to do basic saw cuts whereas a dado rail requires milking the wood away using a specialised cutting tool.
