Death of little girl from dinghy crossing channel

We are constantly told the same that they are familiar with English and have family there. Yet there is absolutely no proof of this “convenient” easy to rattle off excuse. On that basis how would one explain the pre & post war legal migration to France of the Polish, Spanish, Italian & Portuguese communities? Initially they were mostly poor & humble and did not speak French and few had any existing family here. Further they did not for the first few years benefit from social security, free hotel accommodation, travel & dental care.

A large majority (63% of those whose cases have been dealt with) of cross-Channel asylum seekers are actually granted asylum in the UK once they manage to get across.

It is therefore probably safe to assume that if even the anti-migrant and Rwanda-obsessed UK Government accepts that they have a valid case to remain in the UK, then they actually do so.

Another scandal is that only 25% of such cases have actually been processed.

I read the percentage was much higher. Alot depends on, let’s say, who in the Home Office are actually allowing this astonishing high level of asylum seekers into the country. I know from my own experience dealing with the Home Office in Croydon that the staff were often not “home grown”. Much, of course depends also on Government Policy. I was aware that at the time of “solidarnosc” in Poland the Home Office staff were told to automatically accept all application for right to stay in UK from Polish nationals.
Other different examples are GCSE results, and now even the French Baccalauréat has about 95% pass rate !

Nice dog whistle, I presume you haven’t got the courage to say what you actually mean?

You’ve been reading the Daily Mail, haven’t you?

In 2022-23, about 20,000 people were granted asylum in the UK. That’s about 6% of net UK immigration, and an infinitesimal drop in the ocean of the UK’s total population of almost 67 million.

These people have been demonised by a Government seeking scapegoats for its own failures, and it must stop.

Yes of course a few of them are what is euphemistically known as “economic migrants” - but so were the parents of Priti Patel and Suella Braverman in an earlier era.

By the way, you might be interested to know that the annual refusal rate of asylum applications was highest in 2004 (88%) (under a wishy-washy Socialist Labour Government) and lowest in recent times in 2022 (24%) when “Take Back Control” and “Stop the Boats” were in full swing.

we are now obliged to be PC and woke. But it consisted of a diversity of employees if its any comfort to you

So you’re blaming the admission of asylum seekers on people from ethnic minorities being employed by the Home Office?

I see.

Absolutely rubbish. Father takes daughter on a most horrific trip having eschewed a place of safety. He chose to put his daughter’s life in danger. She paid the price for father’s stupidity. I’m sure he can father another, life really is cheap.

Did you really mean to write that?

Yes.
What is your issue?
Have the British government purposely killed the young girl.?
Did the father undertake an illegal, very dangerous activity and put his daughter at risk?

It’s offensive and shows no grasp of the desperate situation this father faced, all he wanted was a better life for his children and having been rejected by various countries felt he had to try and cross the Channel, the guilt he feels will no doubt live with him forever.

You mean you’ve taken offence.
The facts remain.

Because they were given leave to immigrate! The UK needed a work force,

Ever heard of context?

Desperate people are forced to do desperate things which often ends in tragedy.

If you don’t believe that is offensive then there is no hope for you.

So, what happens if a UK asylum processing centre is opened and refuses asylum - don’t forget that many of these individuals have applied for and been refused asylum in other countries. They will still try to cross illegally and hope to disappear somewhere in the UK.

Would you subject your daughter to a harrowing crossing, putting her life in danger when you are already in a place of safety? Irresponsible behaviour, selfish and outrageous.

For how long though? His application for asylum was rejected so they were shortly to be deported.

Perhaps rejected in the UK as well but without the irresponsible dingy journey.
