Feedback about the dept of Indre? Chateauroux area. Thanks

I am looking to buy in this area and wondered about weather, general issues.

Have you wandered through the Chateauroux website
it looks such an interesting, vibrant place.

I’ve driven through it many times. A lot of it is quite flat…

It does!

Yes, it is. Thanks.

Chateauroux is an industrial town with a large military base and a prison. However it’s deemed a safe area!

It’s also flat, being on the edge of the Brenne; The Brenne is an area of ‘1000 lakes’ pancake flat but beautiful. Quiet in winter but heaving with tourists in the summer.

Indre is a nice quiet département, I’ve been in the Cher, next door, for nearly 20 years which has rolling hills.

Rural areas in central France have fewer English speakers, so it would help if you have a modicum French. Good luck understanding Berrichonne or its accent.

Welcome to France

I often pass through the area it’s lovely.

Drive through Indre on our way to Caen for the Portsmouth ferry 3 or 4 times a year. Leave the A20 at J12 then D956 N to Valencay then cut across to Villentrois, Lye (a stop to buy wine) then head to St Aignan and Noyers to pick up A85 towards Tours. Area N of Valencay is more rolling than much of Indre. Also vineyards so maybe a tad more sunshine.

Also once stopped at a hotel in the Creuse valley on the way down S when we lived in the UK. The valley from Argenton down to Gargilesse-Dampierre is a bit of a hidden gem and worth a visit IMHO.
