Morning all!
I’m not sure whether it’s the tail end of winter, the global geopolitical situation or something in the water, but for whatever reason there’s been a lot of generally unnecessary unpleasantness on the site recently and it needs to stop.
I’ve had PM’s from members telling me that they are taking a break / leaving because of this and that’s not ok.
The general consensus is that the main issue is a small group of long established members, who are too cliquey and slap down newer members before proceeding to bicker amongst themselves.
So, until this stops and self regulates again, I will be going with a zero tolerance policy. I strongly suggest that members think before posting and then reread what they have written, asking themselves “Is this helpful, constructive, pertinent and will it help the OP? Or not…”
And of course, please remember the old adage ‘If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all’!!
Apologies in advance for the blanket warning but I thought it best to give everyone a heads up.
I think the moderation here - by you and by @billybutcher - is excellent, especially given how occupied you are by family circumstances. You probably don’t get thanked enough.
I wholeheartedly agree @cat , I know I’m not an angel in this regard as many aren’t but for a few members it’s like a dog with a bone which becomes tiresome.
Thanks for the reminder of true community.
It costs nothing to be polite, kind and above all respectful.
It’s a good reminder of the ‘spirit’ of SF.
Thanks
I think forum members (for those who have not read it yet) should read, mark, learn and inwardly digest lessons from the children’s story called “A Warm Fuzzy Tale “!
Although ostensibly a children’s story, it was written by a psychotherapist called Claude Michel Steiner and published in 1977. He refers to his technique by the rather grand title of transactional analysis but don’t let that put you off reading this charming story.
So let’s leave all the Cold Pricklies for ***king Trump and crew and spread Warm Fuzzies around the SF forum.
I think one of the issues is those who do not fit neatly into obvious categories - eg one half is from EU, children are older, they are coming from US / elsewhere where things like driving licenses etc are more complicated.
Probably not the place to post this, but while we’re talking about coping / getting to grips with life in France, another absolutely key, complex subject is managing end of life.
We are starting the process and facing the uncomfortable truth that whichever of us is left will leave France and return to the UK, in order to keep things simple.
Nicely put and you have my full support as do our members. I personally would also prefer less politics unless there’s a definite like to our life in France. Keep up the good work
But the truth is that no one makes members discuss UK or US politics, it happens naturally so it seems that is what people want to talk about. Efforts to discuss French politics generally fail to produce long threads or much discussion.
