Hello from a new user

Hi everyone,
New here, happy to find an expat forum. I’ve been in France almost 20 years and still navigate the cultural differences.
Looking forward to reading your ideas and contributing my own when possible. :slightly_smiling_face:

Welcome, @Typist2 !

Thanks, @Porridge. What a coincidence, your nickname features in an obscure Canadian novel from about 1920, “Grain”, which I recently reread and can heartily recommend. There is more to Canadian lit than Margaret Atwood :slightly_smiling_face:

Thanks, I’ll have a gander at it.

Yes, deliberate!

Well done, maybe the novel is not as obscure as I thought…

No, I had to look it up. I’d have downloaded a copy if I’d been able to find one. Always interested in book recommendations.

Welcome @typist2!

You will find this a very friendly and welcoming place. Ask within, but be prepared for honest and sometimes unvarnished advice!

If you’ve been here for 20 yearsI hope you’re not an expat. All of us here are either or planning to be, immigrants, and all the better for it :slightly_smiling_face: Welcome to our happy band.

Economic ones, at that too! Pretty sure none of us have fled warzones… Although I did live in Swindon previously.

Hi @Flavia, yes I am!
@John_Scully I still feel like an expat, and maybe always will, but that’s another story…
@SuePJ @Gareth @vero thanks for the welcome to the forum, I was unable to respond more yesterday, since my forum usage is limited as a newcomer :slightly_smiling_face:

I think what you may have fallen over, @typist2 is the restriction on posting more than 3 posts in a row. I think that applies to everyone…

Thinking about Canadian culture, our local cinema recently showed 2 films by Denys Arcand from Quebec, which were incredibly impressive - Jesus of Montreal and Testament.

@AngelaR I loved Testament, as well. If you can find it, in Québécois cinéma I also recommend “Seducing Dr Lewis” / “La grande séduction”, absolutely hilarious comedy about a small rural community trying to get a young doctor to settle there.

Thanks @Typist2 . I shall look out for it!

Thats sounds like the basis for Doc Holliday the film with Michael J.Fox in the lead role before he became ill.
