I’m sure I am not the first to have had this problem, so maybe someone can help.
When we moved permanently to France several years ago we retained our UK home.
My wife returns to her office usually for 10 days or so p month, and needs a base; and sometimes (as now) we add that onto a holiday so it could be a month we are both there.
However our UK buildings & contents insurer has started asking clients to confirm that they are a UK resident.
So I’m looking for a UK insurer who doesn’t mind covering EU residents with UK second homes. Homes that are not let, but used throughout the year by the owners.
Mainstream insurers like NFU Mutual say no, and surprisingly so do specialist holiday home insurers Intasure.
Any suggestions …
Maybe even tho’ you don’t rent perhaps Direct Line for Landlords would accept you?
We arranged our insurance (albeit landlord insurance) via a broker. I can let you have details but you could doubtless find a broker near to your UK house.
Our landlord policy is with AmTrust Europe Ltd, in case that helps.
I have just done exactly this (I am in a very similar situation to your wife) and found cover with Towergate. If the house will be empty for more than 30 days at a time they say you need someone to go and check (inside & out) every 7 days, but if, like me, she is there every month then that shouldn’t be necessary.
There was another company that offered cover UK Insurance Net - but the reviews weren’t good and the quote was a lot higher.
