Is the UK on the road to environmental disaster?

I guess the Telegraph has decided that if the Tories are flushing the UK economy down the toilet, it may as well be an avocado one.

My yellow basin was just like that! It looks better green

I could live with that - classy! Thoughtful design - thoughtful everything. But what sort of wc have you there - curious, not prying…

Edited - is there an art deco accent there?

I thought it is one of those moulinex ones. I love the tartan mosaic floor :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh my… When I was a kid we had the very same thing you’ve got your towels on, but we used it for the telephone in the hallway. We kept the phone directory, yellow pages, Thomson directory, etc… on the bottom part.

Isn’t it funny how seeing something you’ve not seen in 30 years can bring back so many memories? :slightly_smiling_face:

I have no idea if that is contemporary or old, but I like it.

We’ve had Dualit forever and the odd SMEG dotted around but despite having pals that swear by them I’ve never liked Agas. I guess I just lack class :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

My partner has one. I’d never really been interested in them originally… But since using hers I’m fully converted. Despite me originally insisting it was overpriced and that a Morphy Richards one from Argos can do the same thing for a tenth of the price, I don’t think I’d buy another brand now

It’ll outlast me :slightly_smiling_face: I must remember to bequeath it.

For me, it varies. I think Miele is definitely worth the investment, but I’m not sure I eat enough toast to justify a Dualit (though if you amortise over the lifetime of the item, a Dualit is probably better value).

Oh, absolutely agree with you. And this is where I got my own back after “toastergate”. When we moved in we had duplicates of many things… My Miele vacuum cleaner won out over her Dyson

At least it’s not brown. When we moved into our new house, the open plan living/dining/kitchen area was outfitted entirely in five different shades of brown from light beige to dark chocolate. Walls, ceilings, kitchen cabinets, doors and surfaces.
Only the doors weren’t brown. We haven’t got rid of the kitchen yet, but it’s on the list.
Edit: Forgot. The tiles were brown as well. Not pulling them up.

Brown bathroom suite in our first house. Lovely, especially since it was in a high lime part of the country.

To drag this back to the title of the topic, with the current “administration” the answer is yes.

Read this earlier, so depressing and angering.

Old Dualit is better than new though. Newer ones after they switched to the new type of element became much less reliable.

I have an old and a new Dualit somewhere, but now I’m Kitchenaid. B*mbproof.

Yes, we’ve a Miele too. Far better IOO (in our opinion ) than the very expensive Nilfisk it replaced. We also have a small handheld Dyson to scatter dust all over the car seats. Well, that’s what it seems to have been designed to do :joy: If I’d realised Dyson was such a clown at the time I’d never have bought it.

Stella- you are right. I first joined the Conservatives in the 70s and even worked with them to get the UK into the EU. then I got quite heavily involved and it was suggested that I might be a possible parliamentary candidate, and I was approved by Central Office. then my professional career started taking off and I took more of a back seat, but was still in the Bow group and I became a member of the carlton Club. I was an association officer. I met Heath, thatcher, whitelaw, Clark, Heseltine and many others. In the very early 90s i was asked if I would be interested in joining an inner city regeneration partnership, to be funded by the EU and the UK government. In fact I was elected chair annually for 10 years. it was a pro bono job and I gave approximately 200 hours time a year for 10 years. we won £19.6 million seed funding and our target was to attract other investment of £46 million over 10 years. We actually achieved over 3220 million of inwards investment. it was not just about building projects but also about empowering the local population many of whom were deprived in one way or another. this was all following the inner city riots which Heseltine took a leading role in sorting. Now the party is all grab, grab, grab and full of liars. I am ashamed to say my family has distant relationships with both Cameron and Johnson, and I made myself unpopular criticising Johnson among some of my very long standing friends. Several of my very old friends were very avid Brexiters, rather naive politically, but most have died off now leaving people to suffer their work.
