A faint glimmer of hope?
More likely a soundbite to try to garner popularity. It will be quietly forgotten about once it has served it’s purpose. Just realistic.
I’m no Tory, but I read with interest Tory Peer Zac Goldsmith’s resignation letter to Rishi Sunak. He said he resigned because he was horrified by the government abandoning environmental commitments. More precisely with Rishi Sunak’s loss of interest in the environment.
He, the PM, will face questions today before the Liaison Committee including being grilled about the environment.
I shall watch with interest, but the problem for me is that Rishi Sunak appears to have an answer for everything. Of late I’ve noticed that he is so loquacious – he never stops - in his public statements and answers to questions, and will no doubt try to talk his way out in front of the Liaison Committee. I hope these senior MPs make him wriggle.
Actions have always spoken louder than words.
Are there not two things going on here? Goldsmith’s loyalty to Johnson as well as concern for the environment? When you’ve been part of the Johnson smear campaign, it’s hard to retain credibility, I think.
Zac Goldsmith’s loyalty to Boris Johnson doesn’t deter from the fact that "the prime minister (Rishi Sunak) had secretly abandoned promises he made to world leaders only last year to channel billions to poorer countries to help them deal with worsening extreme weather events”, quoting from the Guardian’s Observer view.
I don’t think this is disputed.
Whatever his politics may be, Zac Goldsmith is known to be an environmentalist, David Attenborough being one of his heroes.
Politicians couldn’t give a toss for the environment unless there’s a few quid in it for them.
See “carbon offsetting” for details.
A bit flippant.
My post is about Rishi Sunak and affairs environmental. None of his 5 pledges include the environment. Why?
This is for real and sounds good. I wonder though if this is just a drop in the ocean, or even smaller than that. On one farm in Sussex, it is a dream come true, but can its success spread across the UK and the rest of the world?
Environmental regeneration must outgrow environmental destruction, but when is that going to happen?
