Is this far more serious than Trump?

This is a lot closer to home and will possibly have greater direct impact than what’s happening in the US

No comment on the topic but how is an election 4 or 5 months away a “snap”?

Guardian sub-editors increasingly avoid digging deep.

Increasingly, so many decent articles are prefixed by rubbish headings.

Elderly, “Bah!”

I thought weak Scholz was a risk since day one :frowning: Then strong Mutti Merkel’s energy and immigrations policies started to unravel. I’ve also felt for a long time Germany pushed EU expansion at too fast a rate. We need strong leadership in Germany but also a strong counterbalance in France, especially with von der Leyen in the role she’s in.

Because it requires German organisation first and foremost, i.e. things need to happen in a certain order, failing which they could rapidly become unconstitutional. These were safeguards introduced into the constitution after the fall of the Weimar republic. I’m guessing at the moment that Scholz is attempting to call the other parties’ bluffs with a vote of no confidence in January , 2025, but a lot could still happen in between, and even after, before a general election is called. See for example, this article.
