True to form fate conspires to dislodge our firm intentions.
After our buyers pulled out the vendors of the property in Francescas were initially patient but eventually and understandably they accepted the offer of another buyer leaving us to start the search again.
At almost the same time I received another message from an agent that a property that we were very interested in had returned to the market. We had not previously viewed but as we were en route to L and G to help our friends from the Languedoc find their new home we made an appointment to visit.
It proved to be the dream home (for us) but we still have to find a buyer for our current property or chat to one of my wealthy friends.
I did try for a âpret relaisâ despite not being over keen but it seems I am too old for them to entertain me.
This latest property happens to be in the Lauzun area so it looks as if my wife might win the Nerac vs Lauzun battle after all.
Its all lovely anyway.
Fingers crossed for you that it all happens this time!!
Our property search in the Lot et Garonne continues.
We found another buyer for the house in Brittany and the compromis is scheduled to be signed before the end of this month. Therefore, all being well, we should finally be able to start our new life in L et G before Christmas. Arguably this is not the best time of year to move but it does have itâs advantages.
The latest twist is that the owner of the house that we had settled on in the Lauzun area passed away and the matter of succession has to be dealt with. This takes time and means that should we remain intent on this property we may need to rent somewhere in the interim. As this option is not welcomed by my wife we have begun to look at alternative houses.
We have found several in areas that we are not familiar with and would be interested to hear comments from members.
The first is Tonneins. Our friends in Fongrave and Castelmoron have advised us to avoid the area though as their pockets are somewhat deeper than ours I feel there may be an element of snobbery at play. I have read that it is âmixedâ but also that the authorities are investing in the area and given the selection of attractive houses advertised it surely cannot be that bad?
The second is loosely the Aiguillon/Buzet sur Baise area. Again, apart from having driven past the big winery in Buzet and traversed the main link road outside Aiguillon we do not know the area at all. Once again the selection of properties on offer would suggest that it has its attractions.
Any thoughts or opinions on either area would be welcome as ever. We are returning for yet another (and hopefully the last) voyage of discovery on the 19th of this month.
Sent you a PM.
ThanksâŚI have replied.
Well our move to the Lot et Garonne is proving more arduous than we had hoped but we remain determined.
Having lost two houses that we had hoped to buy as our buyers pulled out we are effectively back to square one.
We have identified a couple of properties that look great on paper, one in Allemans du Dropt and another in Cambes but it is a sector that we are not overly familiar with. Could any of the resident experts offer any thoughts please? Positives and negatives.
TIA.
Allemans du Dropt isnât very far from chez moi, Iâve never heard anything bad about it. Looks quite sweet, its not too far from all sorts of nice places too. I canât remember if you are retired or still dans la vie active, I donât suppose much goes on there.
Thank you for your thoughts Vero. Yes, I suspect it is rather quiet though that does not bother me personally. My wife is more of a social butterfly and involves herself in communal activities and for that you would have Lauzun, Eymet and Duras (though I get the impression that that is equally quiet) all within a short drive. I donât drink so I am the resident chauffeur.
I am technically retired but have no ideas of stopping work, partly because I enjoy it and partly because the additional income will make life easier. I have already been offered a few jobs there so am confident I will find employ.
The two communes are very different kettles of poisson. Cambes is a tiny village with AFAIK nothing in the way of facilities, so youâd be relying on Allemans, Miramont de Guyenne and the other towns mentioned for everything. Allemans is a larger village with a nice atmosphere, still some commerces and plenty of activities, even in winter.
Very helpful advice Houpla and just as I had suspected. Thanks.
