New fosse septic

Hello everyone
I installed a fosse septic with a big filter bed about 15 years ago. At the time there wasn’t another option. I have heard rumours of a simpler system now, a tank with an aerator in it that doesn’t need a filter bed. The filter bed was the difficult part. I need to put another one in for a building at the other side of the garden. Tried researching online without success. Does anyone have experience of the new system?

Have you tried a websearch using the term “micro station d’épuration”? There’s quite a few results.

I helped a friend install one (diamond/cone shaped, quite deep IIRC) about 10 - 15 years ago. They’re not suitable for 2nd homes as the aeration pump needs to run continuously and they weren’t that reliable then. They also weren’t permitted then , but he did it anyway (made in france, exported to uk then re-imported to france). The waste which is fairly clean has/had to go into an existing ground water system or ditch. It worked OK but the pump did fail once and the tank had to be emptied.

We have a MicroStation (living full time in France) as our fosse didn’t conform and we knew it was only a matter of time before the authorities compelled us to upgrade etc…Cost about 11000€ to install… Extremely simple to operate from our point of view, treated water simply runs off into a ‘nou’ (or posh soakaway!) which is planted up with moisture loving plants. Highly recommended from our experience.
