OpenAI is “strip-mining journalism”, allegedly

A good description IMO for this hoovering up activity. If original content keeps being ripped off, then original content will just shrivel up and die.

Surely the “original content” of journalism are facts and can’t be copyrighted?

But they are expressed in the words of the individual journal or journalist - and are thus subject to copyright.

Nonetheless, various llm’s are scraping content while they can.

I wonder how is plagiarism by a regurgitating algorithm spotted.

There is a (probably AI) app for that!

Plagiarism is a problem in the photography industry (and many others I’m sure).

Lazy new photographers not only steal photos from other photographers’ websites to pad out their portfolios, but sometimes steal the text as well!

Old Julie Paisley’s some girl, isn’t she? Amazing the neck some folk have.

Oh yes.

Just one of many, unfortunately. My industry is full of shysters when it comes to selling courses and workshops and “mentoring “.

There are some very good and legit photography teachers of course, but also a goodly number who reckon that ripping off aspirant newbies is an easier way to make a buck than photographing actual clients.

Oh and Corey-Ann (who runs that website) gets actual death threats from some of the scammers and thieves that she exposes - many of whom swear blind that they did nothing wrong…
