Anyone on here buy Ovomaltine ? If so where has it gone? Tried all supermarkets but no joy.
I know it’s made in Switzerland so where has it gone?
Many thanks

?
I have no idea whether this is the case with Ovomaltine, but there are a lot of things vanishing from supermarket shelves at the moment as the retailers play price tug of war with the manufacturers and distributors. So many big brands like Lays, Mars, Nestle, are going missing as the negotiations that were meant to be finalised by the start of this month have to go to a mediator to make a ruling. It’s possible this is the reason, but I’d expect it to be available in at least one chain if so.
Great as the companies you mention are responsible for huge amounts of ill health. Bankrupcy to the lot of them!
Rather a shame for all the people who depends on them for work tho’.
I understand your sentiment but cannot escape the idea that working for a company that causes harm to others is a bad idea. A relation was very well paid for her job working for a gambling consortium. She left because of the upset gambling causes. Of course there will be plenty willing to do her job. I put those people in the same boat, poverty makes people do things they would not otherwise do.
It’s absolutely standard practice in the FMCG world, and they’ve not gone bankrupt yet so I can’t see Mars suddenly going under because Intermarché aren’t selling Snickers bars for a couple of months. I read recently that Waitrose have started selling Warburtons products again after a near 3 year period of not doing so because of one of these ‘who blinks first’ standoffs between retailer and manufacturer so they’re not unusual. What usually happens is the supermarket gets most of the price they want, but then screws over smaller manufacturers to make up for the fact that a giant like Mars wouldn’t roll over and give them the margin they wanted, so ultimately it may be smaller businesses selling healthier products that suffer from these situations while the giants come out fine.
We slightly have gon off the topic I posted.
I just wanted yo know if anyone had seen it for sale.
It’s also OVOMALTINE not OVALTINE !!
Thanks for your thoughts anyway.
regards
Google:
What is the difference between Ovomaltine and Ovaltine?
Recipe originally developed in Berne, Switzerland. Original name: Ovomaltine - however, when the drink was first exported to Britain in 1909 someone got the spelling wrong (Brits and foreign languages!) on the trademark application form. That’s why its called Ovaltine in all English-speaking countries.
Today. Carrefour.
Oh! …well…ummmm, I hope that you are successful in your search
How exciting! I haven’t had it for decades! Ovaltine, as called in Oz, was a winter favourite!
…,.ah, I think we are all going to have to do some blind tasting between ‘Ovaltine’ and ‘Ovalmatine’.
I am sure, they will both bring back memories of warm sunny days (winters) and freshly ironed sheets and brand new plimsolls kind of thing…
Usually stocked in Auchan
Memories when just a nipper was a mug before being sent to bed.
We had a choice of Ovaltine or Horlicks, I think I preferred Horlicks.
A product called Milo might be worth trying if the OP likes Ovomsltine. They are not dissimilar
Ovomaltine available in Intermarché in Bergerac.
In Switzerland it has no sugar in it. In other countries I’ve seen it there was always added sugar.
