Passport renewal to uk

Apologies if not correct topic . I am just trying to find out if it is 3 or 6 months left on passport ? Mine reaches 10 yrs 01st Dec. And expires June 25. Was wanting to go to UK Dec where I can renew , hopefully at an office in UK . Thanks in advance.

3 month for Schengen countries. But if you have a permanent carte de sĂ©jour I think that might trump expiry date, so as long as valid it’s ok.

Renewal of UK passports is online now and posted, whether you are in France or UK. From France it is very efficient taking just a few weeks.

If you wish to go to a physical office it will cost you a lot more as would have to be a fast track application.

If you are going in December you might fall foul of the 10 year rule anyway; you need to meet these criteria coming back to schengen,

  • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
  • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you plan to leave the Schengen area

Thank you jane. I have till june for expiry but 01st Dec is the 10 yr point .
Is ackward as am waiting to collect CSD so need passport , no date yet.
On visitors CDS but have the paper CDS ATM co er till 07/25.
It costs 120 euros on line a d need to send old passport , do you know cost of fast track by chance.
Timings not great but over the 3 yrs waiting for CDS always an issue.
I hope to get th UK for xmas :christmas_tree:

How long it takes to renew from here is in the lap of the God’s.

First hurdle is the photo of you, I downloaded an App, which for a few examines the photo and tells you if it reaches the official requirements. Nominal cost.

Then I used from the post office a service guaranteed delivery in the UK in three days, it did what it said. Cost, from memory around €40.

I think that I paid for an express renewal and return, but I can’t be sure if I am remembering correctly.

The new passport arrived “signed for”, I think in two - three weeks. Each step of the process I had an email update.

It was an efficient process.

If you send it away for renewal, I think that I would get an official translator to translate it and stamp the translation. So if you need to present it for your CsJ you will have an official copy.
I have used an online service in the past.
I don’t know if a copy made by the Marie, Notaire, or the Gendarmarie with their stamp on would suffice, perhaps you could ask at your prefecture after explaining your predicament. Or consult a Notaire.

Good luck :crossed_fingers:

My passport renewal a couple of years back took 10 days from sending the old one back to getting the new one delivered to my door via DHL which is what you pay for as it had to be signed for. I did the online photo and applied online which went immediately, getting an email to confirm and that they would act when the old passport arrived, again emails to confirm it had and email to confirm when processed and sent back. All in all very painless.

I applied to renew the OH’s passport on 07/10, posted it same day.

New passport arrived on 23/10 and old passport on 24/10.

Text messages from HM Passport at every stage.

Hope that helps.

About 18 months ago I tried to make an appointment at Newport Passport Office, to coincide with a visit I was making to the UK. I had done this before but on this occasion when I entered ‘France’ as my place of residence I was told an appointment was not available to me and the application must be made online. I did get a digital photo taken while I was in the UK and was able to upload it on the PO’s app/system. That said, the on-line process was reasonably quick and efficient -the passport took almost two weeks to arrive/be received at the passport office but once entered in the system I had my new passport within the week.

Our experience echos Kim’s.

Did the photo on a phone, which took a couple of goes to get right. Sent everything off international suivi, and took about three weeks start to finish. Efficient and simple.

Yes exactly the same took a photo on the phone. Couldn’t be easier, I was quite surprised on how quick it was.

Same here. Herself renewed hers recently and it took 3 weeks start to finish. Did mine last year and my old passport took a little longer to get where it needed to be, so mine took 5 weeks.

SMS updates at every step and the DHL delivery (which you have to sign for) was super efficient.

Our DHL delivery driver signed for OH’s passport and left it in the post box, both passports.

Ours were the same dort of timing last year. Dreading doing our Aussie ones, we have to go to Paris

We used to send to Paris to renew UK ones previous to brexit as it was demanded to go via the embassy there, luckily the turnaround was pretty quick.

Yes I remember that, what I mean is we have to physically go to the embassy in Paris!!!

To avoid hassle, my wife and I had our photos taken by a “Govt approved” photographer in the spring, whilst in the UK. Both online apps were then submitted (and acknowledged), and old passports posted (from France), 27/06. My old passport receipt was acknowledged 01/07, my application was approved 09/07, and my new passport was received (in France) 16/07.

However, nothing was heard of my GLW’s app until first thing 15/07, when an email deemed her photo “unacceptable because of shadows”. I quickly took a replacement on my camera which she forwarded, and her app was then “approved” at noon the very same day as rejected. That was impressive. She received her new passport on 22/07.

Both photos had looked weird, but had been validated by the photographer on the Govt website and uploaded to the passport database, so I assumed that the “weirdness” was part of customised lighting for the new Schengen system. Obviously not, and I now worry that the s*** will hit the Schengen fan when I am first required to present my fizog to the Schengen camera, and at the same time, my passport to the Schengen scanner!! Ho hum!

Yes, a pain in the bum to be honest. My daughter had to do the same with the US embassy in London, she got there three hours before they opened and the queue was forming as they only take so many each day.
