We moved to Aquitaine last month from the UK. I am self-employed, providing transcription services to UK companies and need to get my business set up and registered over here. I have been trying and failing to find an accountant to advise me on the best way to go about things. I would be really grateful to receive any recommendations for accountants locally or who will provide their services over the phone/internet. Thanks!
ah but did we have problems with the same company of accountants?
I am not impressed with professions in general in this country including accountants. Last July, the director of the accountant firm that the Company uses came back from a week seminar with the tax authorities. He called me and said, "I am looking for the nearest and tallest tree to hang myself on." I asked him if he was joking,.He said no....tax filing, social charges, are now so complicated that we will have to hire a second accountant to verify the work of the first.
WOW..WOW...and as far as Bordeaux is concerned...the place, the city is a complete rip off in more ways than one..my opinion....of course.
I WAS very unhappy with the accountancy company which I used in Bordeaux area.
Long story but....it seems they used a British man to lure the desperate British
clients in.
We all want to get it right and hope that these accountants are well informed.
Be careful.
In once used Terry Hurlock.
Good Morning Michelle,
I had the nasty experience of having an accountancy firm recommended to me in Mérignac. I set up a business there and started to pay through the nose in everything even though the first year of business, there was ..little business..(I had just moved in from Madrid)...As it turned out, I was basly advised in a new country with fiscal, social laws completely unknown...but what I did find out was that my pocketbook had a hole in it. I should have started up as a "micro entreprise" instead of what they advised. Today being a consultant to small French companies, I am an AE but there are limits to that as well.
A word of advice? Talk to a few people, a few firms. I find accounting in this country to be very unprofessional compared to what I knew elsewhere. Don't be afraid to ask the same question 10 times!
Thanks for the recommendations. I will check them all out.
Michelle,
