Poor old Sinead O’Connor passes away

Maybe that should be ‘Poor(?) not very old Sinead Connor dies.’

Is there a strain of self -destructiveness amongst too many of Ireland’s more recent creative greats - I spent my teenage Saturdays being amazed by George Best’s skills and Hurricane Higgin’s superfast snooker, Shane MacGowan’s Fairy Tale of New York is still is one of my all time favourites. Don’t yet know the details of O’Connor’s demise so won’t say more.

Interesting contrast to earlier generations like Beckett, Joyce and Heaney…

Talented and troubled, sadly all too common

Not forgetting Dolores O’Riordan too

I was going to say such a troubled life

Poor girl struggled with lifelong bi-polar illness as well as fibromyalgia. Her 17 year old son committed suicide last year after evading suicide watch. I think it very sad and quite likely Sinead has now ended her own life.

Just brings back memories of Kirsty Macoll to me.

Fair enough but, she’s far more tragic because she didn’t self-destruct and her killer got off (don’t think we need the ‘alleged’ qualifier in this context).

May the lass finally rest in peace. She or her music were not my cup of tea but still tragic at such a young age.
