Renouncing an inheritance - psychopathic mum's legal tangle

Hello all
Please help me I am terrified of putting a foot wrong and tacitly agreeing to l’acceptation pure et simple of an inheritance that is riddled with debts. I had hired some specialist lawyers in UK, just to chase the french notaire to answer even basic correspondence but I had to let the lawyers go because my money ran out because i’m on disability benefits (disabled due to abuse in childhood from my mum).
Basically I want to renounce my share of the inheritance. My French estranged mum died in France, I am a Brit living in the UK. My estranged sibling lives in France
The notaire wants me to sign l’acte de notoriete. He would send a procuration that I believe I would have to sign before a UK notary public.
Seeing as I want to renounce, do I even need to sign the acte de notoriete?
To renounce, is it just a case of downloading, filling in and signing the form and sending to back to the notaire? Or is that also something that needs to be done by procuration, seeing as I’m in the UK?
Many thanks for any pointers

No you can renounce via a special form and send it to the greffier at the local TGI. Look online for the government details on gouv.fr. We renounced and our notaire dealt with the sending in of the paperwork to the TGI, think we paid around €300 for the three of us. Do not sign anything from a Notaire as from that moment you will be liable for debts of the deceased and they just want rid of the case and get their money - remember a Notaire is not your friend, they are government officials collecting taxes and dispersing inheritances. You can also be chased for outstanding debt repayment in the UK if you accept.
