I was thinking about this. I have British and German passports. As it’s not cheap, do I have to renew my UK passport? The German one, along with the ID card, is enough to prove identity and right to live here. What disadvantages could there be?
I see no reason why you should have to. Maybe check you have a copy of your long form birth certificate.
My bad. Wrong term.
I was applying on-line and the instructions were very specific about it being a UK passport, otherwise I would have used my French one. I no longer have my UK driving license, that is French now also.

Fair enough - they need to get their ducks in a row then because the official form that I found only mentions sending a birth certificate:
Maybe doing the whole application online with passport info means you don’t have to physically send your birth cert??
It could be that the application for UK pensions has changed, they were ‘piloting a new application procedure’ and it was title ‘beta’ they have asked for feedback which I will absolutely give frankly and without hesitation.
PS At no time was a birth certificate mentioned. That would have been no problem at all.
It’s so much easier to just phone them to sort your uk pension out
How weird! It features prominently on the form I found!
Although it’s always a possibility that I found the wrong form, and it’s actually an application for a cat licence.
TBH it’s more likely me that has applied for a cat license.
I’m intrigued that you’ve been steered to what sounds like a pilot version of a possible future online application process. Out of interest, Carolyn, do you mind me asking what was it that alerted/steered you to the possibility that you could apply for your UK state pension online? If I look at the government site currently, it only offers the choice of phoning the IPC to set up the pension, or posting them the IPC-BR1 form, or contacting them (via an online contact form) if you have a query. Thanks.
Update. Just received my new passport today.
Posted back my old one on the 4th February.
10 days turn around. Shame it doesn’t say EU on it , thanks Fartage and co .
