I’m watching appalled at the MAGA assault on Americans. There’s a wide purge happening, people are being fired, many others are under threat and privacy has been thrown out the window. Even tariffs on other countries will be paid for by Americans.
He’s declared a trade war on Canada, Mexico and China, the EU is next in the firing line. He’s killed foreign aid and he and Musk are interfering in other countries internal affairs, Denmark, Germany, Panama, South Africa. He’s welcoming a man who’s committed genocide as his first foreign leader visitor, so that they can “reconfigure” the M/E together.
Certainly a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth from sane Americans on Bluesky. But what can be done when they were (mostly) elected. There are some court cases rolling but those are always subject to partisanship. Put 5 million people on the street of DC this Saturday and see what happens- that’s my response. Of course, people might get killed doing this now…
Certainly, since he is unelected, unappointed, unconfirmed and has plenty of conflicts of interests. The good news is that both my wife and I got our SSA payments in the last few days. The bad news is the SSA website in inaccessable. But that isn’t all that unusual becase it’s garbage.
Lets just hope Trumpy and his minons are on a self destruct course. Senate and House electiobs in 2 years could make him a lame duck president…
That is if enough voters turn up to give the GOP the finger and marching orders…
Watching the real time destruction and dismantling of America will be interesting. Unfortunately it’s a bit like watching satellite footage of a marine volcano blowing itself up and sliding half a mountain into the sea knowing you are in the path of the resulting tsunami.
On a personal level, I’m not too worried as I’ve no idea what it’ll do the exchange rates.
However on a global level I saddened about the withdrawal of aid to Africa in particular and fell sorry for the American people even thought the majority voted for Trump, he’s unlikely to improve the lot of many of them. They’ve just been used and now being thrown under the bus like that fallen hero Giuliani.
Sorry also for well meaning Democrat voters who are now realising that they’ve been let down by their leaders
On tonight’s France 24 news we were told that US billionaires are upset that tariffs are coming before tax-cuts rather than vice versa!
If Justin had any balls he’d still implement the retaliatory Canadian tariffs Giving in to bullies doesn’t work in the playground nor at the highest levels of diplomacy. I hope the EU faces him down.

I don’t think Hitler was greedy. Trump is certainly greedy but I think Musk, Thiel et al have achieved the billionaire buzz, now, because that are so, so clever it’s a World domination buzz they are after.
Mind you, implementing and then rescinding tariffs will produce market volatility that could be a nice little earner for this those in the know. And with the SEC staff under threat crypto and insider dealing may be the future
I believe tarrifs are the ‘dead cat on the table’ a much bigger danger comes from the dismantling of US institutions and international bodies created to make this workd safer for all.
Meglomania like the character in one of the Bond films who was a media billionaire but wanted to control the world. Think it was the actor Jonathan Pryce who played him. Mind you Musk is more like the Austin Powers character to me.
