It’s not too late…
It’s expected to be a good show this year, with a very low moon so not too much light. I doubt we’ll top last year, when we saw a fireball which was amazing.
Typical now I am back in the UK but telescope is in France. Would still be there now but for the 90 day rule
Wow!!
In past years, we’ve seen the odd… “flaming arrow”… (looks just like in the cowboy films of yesteryear… )
For me, the skies are (almost) magical…
have you been here 90 consecutive days???
It doesn’t need to be consecutive, just within the last 180 days.
I know the subject was thrashed about…with links to all sorts of on-line machines which gave a variety of replies one of which was IIRC a “rolling 180 days”…
hence my question… as I haven’t needed to test/try the system… yet !!!
The EU official on line calculator was the source, I only had 10 minutes left! The queue at Dieppe took an hour to get through passport control. The other queue was going 3x faster. Hope to return in September but max 13 days by the look of it
Ah… you’ll be back to help us celebrate our Wedding Anniversary…
this gives a bit more info on what to expect…
Some photos of this year’s shower
Around 6pm in France tonight… Venus and the Moon
… and from now for next couple of weeks you may see some of the Geminids
I went outdoors to take a peak and met a neighbour. Explained why I was searching the heavens and we both ended up wandering gently and peering skywards.
Finally got out of the lee of the houses and there was Venus glowing like a beacon, with the sliver of golden moon way down below…
marvellous.
We both stood, staring and enjoying the moment, in companionable silence.
In France, Venus was blazing above the Moon just after 6pm.
No idea what the weak star was that you saw below the Moon unless you are in a different part of the world (upside down) and it was too early for Venus to be truly blazing
I had forgotten your post until driving home and was presented with the same moment.
