Irene, I have been gone a few years and only hear the likes of my social worker nephew telling us how dreadful it is. I stand to be corrected, since I am not able or ever really was to say it first hand.
We have often found quite the opposite. We try to go to them, explain exactly what it is we want dealt with, are friendly, offer to be cooperative and so on. Of course we have had problems, all of which are usually resolved by asking to know who is the person superior to the one we are dealing with. If they refuse, then we simply tell them that we will find out by other means then that person will receive a complaint that will include the exact time of our call or visit and the name of the person giving or refusing to give their name. That worked on both occasions then we got full satisfaction.
Compare that to DWP practice where there is a no complaints allowed policy that is in written form, instead a complicated appeals procedure and far less transparency than here anyway.
Personally, I think there are problems but some of them are caused by the attitude of 'clients', the French of course, but 'foreigners' of many different origins, especially those who a) do not know or respect the procedures here and b) those who do not speak French and expect their language to be used.
Ireland a great result ; France, well, who could imagine otherwise ; England hee hee. In other news, OM are right now one behind PSG, wail :)
Go as far off topic as you like. As far away from the kipper fleet as you can ;-)
Well, watching OM-PSG right now, not bad either :)
A meat pie, a fag and a rugby match, now that is heaven...
Nae bother Jimmy. If you're lookin fer me ye're gwantae effin find me, doon the road, and don't forget yer P45
If you wish to be offensive you'll not be pleased by my retaliation
Leave my dog out of this or I'll tell you what I really think about you
Our kind of girls :)
I thought that was the one, Brian, but apparently the version bellowed at the Common Ridings has different words, although the same structure. It's title and origins are a bit of a mystery. At the risk of further trivialising a serious debate, here's the song "performed" in typical fashion: AULD SELKIRK. For the benefit of anyone whose ears aren't attuned to the Borders lilt, here are some of the words:
The wee toons o the borders are bonnie toons tae see
There’s gala, Hawick and Melrose, tae mention only three.
There’s yin that stands upon a hill, looks doon on a the rest
And that’s oor ain dear Selkirk, the toon we lo’ the best
Auld Selkirk, auld Selkirk, she’s ancient but she’s braw!
O’ a’ the bonnie border toons, the fairest o’ them a’
Apologies for going so outrageously far "off topic". Won't happen again.
Al
@ Vero - a meat pie and a fag. My kind of girl. :)
Again, "Gallic shrug". I think the troll took uppance at me having been a far (meaning unpaid overtime) from 35 hour local authority officer...
Sure it's not Thomas the Rhymour? Anyway, glad we got away from the U-Kippers (sorry Al), all I could contribute further to that could be summarised as a "Gallic shrug"
Yes Kippers does devalue the noble smoked product and the British and Canadians who fought the Batttle of the Atlantic
Yeah right Richard
My hero Cameron! Oh do be serious Richard. The PM is certainly not my hero. Essentially he is a PR man who worked I think for a London based broadcasting company Carlton Communications. His support for the cause of gay marriage for all I know may be genuine and if it were so I would applaud him. I've suffered enough for the misappropiation of my family name but I do believe in equaity before the law and as marriage is a civil contract I see no reason to exclude anyone from that contract. Mariage itself has always beeen a fairly shaky concept. Before the 15th century it was seen as a civil matter. It was only until later that the Pope attached a sacramental value to marriage that the view changed.Do read and understand more political history and recognise that the EU was ntended as a bulwark against the sort of UKIP'iISM Poujadisme that the Cameronianistes seem willing to support. You might have a very different view of what the EU means were you to be an inhabitant of Poland and the Baltic states. But you're not are you? You are just some peron who whinges about WFP.
Oh don't worry Richard we're not about to decapitate your wee dog.Facebook and Twitter were created for the simple reason that they might make a profit. To date we haven't seen a single argument backed up by evidence that your bletherings have any thing to contribute to the argument about WFP.
I agree Jane, especially as I've asked 3 perfectly civilised & reasonable questions and had no answer...
Just the meanders of dinner-party conversation at their most jolly. Melton Mowbray - isn't that the pork pie place? Good but still, as far as I'm concerned, mutton pies beat them hands down ;-) the ones with delicious melting chunks not the mince ones.
