Trump's won, the West is goosed ☹️

I don’t think he will be interested in a third term. He won’t have any crimes to be excused of since the Supreme Court gave him total immunity. Everything he does is legal. Just like Nixon said’ Ïf the president does it, it must be legal"- now affirmed by SCOTUS.

My understanding is that his ‘immunity’ as president doesn’t rid him of being culpable of and tried for crimes committed in previous years once he is no longer president. He has good genes and despite his unhealthy life-style he may still be alive and kicking and willing to avoid jail by trying for a third term.

Unless of course, his cognitive decline gets the better of him!

Not to say that he couldn’t run as vice president, Putin & Medvedev style

Trump coudn’t run as vice-president - he’d be a loser, and he castigates losers!

Sounds like the infighting during the early days of the Hitler “administration”.

In not sure Trump will want another term simply because of his age - he will be 83 in 2028, after all.

If he did want another term I don’t thing he try to overturn the 22nd, it’s very unlikely he would get the backing of two thirds of both houses - he’d try some sort of emergency powers or even a straight coup.

There are other theories though, some sort of health issue meaning Vance being signed in as president.

In any case the people to really worry about (Musk, Theil and the other billionaires) are not so much in the public eye at the moment.

Nope. That was the deal before the Supreme Court ruling in 2024. He is immune (present and future) for official acts commited while POTUS. Now- define official.

In Time magazine, April 2024, he stated, "I wouldn’t be in favor of a challenge. Not for me. I wouldn’t be in favor of it at all. I intend to serve four years and do a great job.”

Maybe we can believe what he says now…

Will POTUS 47 save TikTok?

Will millions of influencers have to get real jobs?

He is the one who started the anti-TikTok movement back in 2020. Way too far back for his minions to remember. But yes, he’ll at least pretend to try and save it. But it’s a pretty-ironclad law that Congress passed, designed to be POTUS (any POTUS) proof. But with this one coming in tomorrow, there is no guarantee that he’ll do anything legal. Why would he start now? Plus, it’s almost comical to think he is pulling the strings. ((Enjoying my last 18 hours of the US Republic as it now stands))

I think the idea is to force TikTok to hive off their US business and sell it to an American entity e.g, E. Musk Esq.

But the sticking point is the proprietary Chinese software that runs it, which the Chinese government would not want to let anyone else have. So even if Trump were able to “do a deal” to have Musk buy it, the Chinese would probably veto it.

Personally I would be happy to see all these “social” media networks closed down - they have become more and more pernicious. I posted a photo of Trump’s police mugshot on Facebook last week (in response to his official Presidential portrait which is eerily similar) and FB hid it on the grounds that it “might upset people”. Well yes looking at Trump is always upsetting, but really?

They also removed my follow-up post where I complained about the censorship.

Instagram is as bad - they have just decided that all photos posted on there have to be vertical format. WTF?

I would be happy to ditch the lot of them and go back to forums (fora) like this one which are moderated by actual humans and not infested with spam and disinformation.

But the Supreme Court has already ruled that a President can break the law whilst in office as long as it’s an ‘official act’. He could just ignore Congress and do what he wants. At the very least, he could try and tie any legal challenges up in court until the end of his term.

That would be the first piece of SW the Chinese “produced” that wasn’t actually lumps of code written elsewhere and kludged together in human history, if true.

Well they see it as their IP - yes maybe ironic but it has been stated as a reason for not hiving off a “US Tiktok”.

Oh how I laughed, their IP :joy: The irony of it. US Corporate greed having gifted them so much IP for so long.

Anyway, spilt milk.

When Trump told him he would throw him in prison, Zuckerberg believed him. FB will not be doing anything to upset the slimy bastard. Intimidation is now the order of the day, hence the horror movie poster nature of the official portrait.

He doesn’t care one way or the other, he’s just following his usual strategy of throwing sand in the works. Which has been very successful.

I have made similar observatons (though less elequently) - what we are seeing is more a reversion to “normal”, the post war period is the abberation.

Also remember the words of LNJ

Over the last few years I have come to the same conclusion. I had assumed the “norm” that I was brought up in was the “norm”. In fact it wasn’t and it’s very fragile.

I was watching dunderhead MAGA supporters being interviewed and revelling in the fact that change is coming. Turkeys voting from Christmas.

For me the question is, do our politicians recognise the risk? Trump and Musk et al will come for Europe, we need to fight back, not appease. Very tough decisions need to be made. Decisions that will go against the grain for those that were brought up in the post WWII World.

It’s not politicians though - it is voters who need to reject the right wing at the ballot box.

But there is little evidence that is going to happen while we have a complicit media.

It is too late, the turkeys have voted, Christmas is coming.

I think it is Billy. It is they that have to educate the electorate. They can now choose appeasement, in which case Trump can do what he likes for the next four years, or return attack with attack. The problem is I don’t think there is the leadership in Europe. A lot pivots on the German elections.

How, exactly?

Obviously there are some things they could influence - such as teaching 20th century history in schools not some crap about 1066 or Henry VIII (though these are not without relevance). Not filling the BBC board of governors with political appointees would help as well.

But I don’t see how politicians are supposed to directly educate the masses.

What attacks do you anticipate?

Trade wars won’t do anyone any good, actual wars even less so. Obviously if Trump invades Greenland that might be different - but by the time we cross that Rubicon we’re really stuffed.
