The electricity has gone out due to storms and not came back on without resetting the Linky. The problem is we are not at in France. Is there away to reset the Linky remotely, so we don’t return to a smelly frig?
Could you contact your supplier to do it remotely?
Is that normal? Having to use the Linky after a power cut? We had one recently and everything came back on all by itself after it was restored.
In a power cut it doesn’t trip, just stops. But in a storm it trips. We have to reset ours.
Suppliers can turn them on and off remotely, but no idea if they can reset as normally you have to physically press a button. Worth asking tho’ if no one has the keys to go and do it for you.
Oh I see, ours was definitely a cut because a large local area was affected too. First thing I knew it was back was when the gatebell rang, and then the lights.
The helpline for my Linky ‘panne’ line reset mine remotely. Their phone number was in the Linky documents left - I am not sure if it was Engie (likely) or EDF but I am sure any number you call at either of those would give you the right number to call.
I photographed key parts of the documents and uploaded for safety to my email when the Linky was installed - including the equipment reference number. But I’m sure the helpline would be able to derive the ID number of your Linky from the address also.
ENEDIS troubleshooting center by calling 09 72 67 50 XX, the last two numbers are those of your department
I would say though … I’ve never had to reset the Linky after storms/outages - I have had to reset the main EDF breaker or an RCD in the tableau after storms. So whilst its worth checking with ENEDIS … a neighbour would be better if possible
Our house is in SW France and it was due to a storm. My wife called the helpline and the representative would NOT reset it remotely and said we had to be present. He said, “What if there is a tree on the line?” Maybe we didn’t say the right words? If there was a problem on the line, I don’t see how that would be our problem. I was hoping there was a way around EDF’s intransigence. Guess there isn’t one.
Thanx

Oh dear… from replies so far… I think the “smelly fridge” might well be on the cards when you do return…
However, to retrieve something from the “disaster” perhaps you should consider organising a trusted key-holder for the future.
best of luck
I wonder whether the issue was whether there was something (tree on roof?) that could make your supply dangerous if turned back on without a physical check. And potentially burn your house down - a bit worse than loosing the contents of fridge and freezer?
So maybe doing you a favour rather than being obstructive?
We have a keybox, and that could be a possibility for you as then in extremis you could ask a neighbour or the marie to pop by. Our closest neighbour is a worrier, and hated having our key in the houses in case of burglaries. So this is great as if other key-holder also away we have extra options.
Before we moved here permanently we left a key with our neighbours so they could reset if the switch tripped. It can only be done physically. We didn’t want to risk losing any freezer contents so never kept anything in it until we moved here permanently or were staying for a while.
I do know that when the big storm a few years ago knocked out the electricity for three days the repair men needed access to the house after the lines had been restored to carry out resets.
Way before Linky meters.
Yes Corona I know that but it may well be the same requirement with the Linky. I’m certainly no electrician and hopefully don’t have to find out as 3 days without electricity in a fully electric house, bar the insert, was no joke!
It’s no help in this situation, but because we only have 4 weeks per year at the house there’s an iron rule that water and electricity both go off before we leave.
No not normally as others have posted. Had many outages early in the year and its all powered up when power was restored. Its a nuisance for sure. The supply company should know from a supply test if there was a problem like a tree snapping the cable but sounds like they couldnt be bothered to even try to help.
We had a friend that was able to come and turn the power back on. So all is good for now. She commented that she hadn’t had the same problem, so maybe there is an unstable circuit in the house that the Linky senses. Or it could be that we are the last house at the end of the line. She lives in the same commune but a few kilometers away. Updating the electrical is the first item on our renovation list. Thanks to all for your input.
Very often the case - the “surge” has no where else to go
Could also be down to a faulty Linky. However glad its sorted.
When our power goes off whether through a power cut or lightening, it never turns itself back on whereas our immediate neighbours always comes back on. We both have Linkys that are fed from a cable coming down from the pole between our houses and both Linkys are outside about 3 m apart. Go figure !
Interesting, I wonder if there is a setting that can be adjusted? @Badger
