Margaret Thatcher sowed the seeds of division.
Yes I know its a nasty rag but just seen the pictures of yesterday’s activities by these thugs in the DM and am horrified, you can’t describe it anything else but those words! The family of the boy who murdered those little girls must be living in absolute fear of their lives now, I know I would be. How on earth are the guilty going to punished when all the jails are full already is my question, fining them won’t do anything if most are unemployed and living in rented accomodation without any assets to seize and getting a criminal record is almost seen as an honour these days amongst some of the ilk.
The PNC isn’t for sharing intelligence (which is what needs to be shared): it’s a centralised record of various sorts of information which is, of course, used by all the police forces.
The real difficulty is that the UK has 45 different police forces, and each has its own way of working. And has (or used to have until recently) complete autonomy. It’s an historical anomaly, because of course there is one force for NI and one for Scotland, but also (for example) one for Cleveland.
This may be a way of unifying the forces, but it will be a very difficult battle!
I can’t speak for the PNC but I will admit that in many countries Government systems built by firms of accountants masquerading as IT specialists have been problematical. Arthur Andersen, (as was) KPMG, PWC, EY, Deloitte. As in the commercial world, they sell through C suite or equivalent and then get out of their depth further down the line, but get away with it because of senior level support. Accenture too is better at talking than delivering.
I remember Private Eye following and documenting awry UK Government projects over the years.
The PNC is based sensibly on a mainframe (albeit an IBM clone) with a spot of added UNIX. Not bleeding Windoz So it should at least stay up long enough to help quell these rioting thugs.
It seems division if fundamental to today’s form of politics. If you can divide people then you only have tip a very small percentage one way of the other (as with Johnson and Brexit, which way is the Tipper.s choice) to win. The culture war has already done all the heavy lifting.
All these riots, what on earth is going on. Just when you thought the UK couldn’t get any worse, it just did. Economy wrecked, and now we have civil disorder………what next? I really can’t believe the speed with which it’s gone downhill - so sad, meanwhile, amidst all this backdrop most still cannot avoid continually discussing house prices and the importance that has in their lives.
Encouraged by the likes of Farage - no doubt aimed at making life even more difficult for Labour.
We have short memories. I was living in Battersea when there were the Brixton riots - very ugly, extended to Battersea itself. I was blissfully unaware living about a mile from all of it. Mum was very concerned for me watching it on TV. Having no TV, I had no idea. Ignorance is bliss.
I think it was the weather that brought it all to an end. No point in rioting in the pouring rain.
Absolutely. A change in the weather will put an end to it.
I think the key difference here is that it’s not as localised.
Farage is bad enough but I’ve seen stuff on social media this weekend from Robinson and Fox that absolutely warrants jail time for incitement. Government rhetoric on the issue sounds promising. I hope it follows through.
Something sensible from Pritti Patel.
30 plus years of identity politics and professional politicians have brought us to point.
Both need to go.
This not very bright one covered his face, presumably to avoid identification, but forgot to cover his tattoo…
Pot, kettle One despicable rabble rouser condemning another for the same. She’s a self-serving hypocrite and no better, and perhaps even worse, than Farage, because she actually did bad stuff, Farage just talks about it.
Concerned citizens of Middlesborough or maybe elsewhere making their point (Guardian pic). Also complaints registered making use of the windows of affordable homes.
True, I was living in Ladbroke Grove in 1976, luckily I was in France when the Notting Hill Carnival ended in riots. It all didn’t seem that much of a big deal at that tender age. Though I suppose I had lived close to the “troubles” when a bomb here or there or a kneecapping seemed normal too☹️
First action should be to ban hoodies (worldwide) and life imprisonment for wearing non Government authorised balaclavas.
However, they do hide some very ugly faces…
Are they banned in France, along with hijabs etc.? Or is it only if they are religeous?
