UK riots, “it's a handful of thugs" myth

While it’s a different country, this doesn’t seem inappropriate.

It would seem that some are already going to court, with bail being refused.

Out of interest, who threw their teddies out of the pram and asked permanent leave of absence?

Truly sickening scenes on Channel 4 news. Thugs going down a street kicking in all the car windscreens and throwing bricks through the windows of people’s houses.
Thugs trying to set fire to hotels where asylum seekers reside. Musk talking about civil war. Would you buy a Tesla now? He’s already supporting Trump.

Yes, but Starmer still concentrating too much on the thugs, instead of the real culprits, Farage, Patel, Braverman, Musk etc. etc. etc. It’s easy to put an unemployed plumber from Southport into jail, addressing the real culprits not so much. He needs to start pointing fingers and threatening those that have created this toxic environment. A criminal charge or some sort of sanction against Musk would be a start :slightly_smiling_face:

… and newspaper editors?

I think he’s right.

And owners :+1:

Once again, this isn’t random thugs, this is a national crisis. Albeit not of Labour’s creation, but a recall of Parliament wouldn’t be OTT.

I suspect the evidential challenge is quite tricky but hopefully they are being looked at closely.

What do they get out of destroying possessions and property? If that is not thuggery then I don’t know what is. Do they still use Dartmoor as a prison, if not, open it up and throw the lot inside to rot. If these thugs were fighting a real cause i.e. protection of their country etc, why would they turn against their fellow countrymen and hurt them? Also doing the nazi salute, have they forgotten their relatives fighting against such fascism or are they all knuckle-dragging, slobbering brain dead morons??

At least it takes your mind off Israel & Jews for 5 minutes*

Dartmoor Prision has beem emptied due to high Radon levels.

Well, if you can take you mind off Netanyahu trying to involve the US in a regional war, fair enough. I think most rational people would find it alarming.

Ideal.

I think we see eye to eye politically, John, much of the time, but I think your suggestion that the UK population has suddenly become uber racist is wrong.

There are, for sure, some nasty racists and some political opportunists already discussed, but the underlying cause of this is the fact that the UK is falling to pieces.

People can’t get NHS services, the roads are falling to bits, people are struggling to make ends meet, schools are falling apart, housing is in crisis, wages are poor - I could go on and on.

The refrain from the Tory government and now this one sadly (as they cut winter fuel allowance in the most unjust way) is ‘we can’t afford it’. While at the same time people see the rubber boats arriving and the occupants getting ‘everything for free’.

There was an interesting interview with a Muslim leader the other day. He said that occupants of some of the targeted mosques had gone out to talk to protesters, once the worst of the trouble had died down. They found that many didn’t know why they were there, other than general frustration with their own lives.

The police need to round up the looters, arsonists and agitators and hit them hard in the courts. But the main way to solve this, I think, is to rebuild society, make it fairer and find some way of competently designing and running decent public services so you can see a GP in under a month!

I’m hopeful Labour might achieve that, but not exactly convinced so far, especially after Rachel Reeves’ actions to date.

I would disagree with this - while nobody likes to see benefits taken away, the fuel allowance was not means tested so pensioners with higher incomes were getting a payment that they didn’t really need.

And for many, if not most recipients it wasn’t a huge amount of money anyway - far better to target it to those most in need.

Yes there will be some pensioners whose incomes are just above the limit for pension credit who will notice the difference, but equally there are 850,000 pensioners who are eligible for pension credit (which also unlocks other benefits apart from winter fuel allowance) who currently don’t claim it. A push to get those people to sign up would be a good idea.

The Labour government is having to make hard choices, and that was just the first of them.

The jails are actually full to bursting point. I have looked at many of the videos the proud thugs took of theirselves and their cronies and would say that on more than one occasion I have seen the anarchist flags proudly worn around their shoulders.

The sad fact is that over the last 14 years there has been little attention paid to the “working and benefit (not always fraudulent may I add) class” hence they become angry when people are coach driven into their areas and put into purchased hotels while they await a decision on their asylum/refugee situation.
Also they have been driven to despair by not being able to afford the basic cost of living and tension is heightened when they are told - these people are given money and the best health care etc.,

They get £49.50 a week and do not get the best health care before their familys - this is the media driven lie backed up by government lackeys and by fear. There were people protesting quietly and orderly but they were taken over by the thugs and very angry people joined in.

Meanwhile Mr Starmer is refusing to meet with the leaders/politicians of many Muslim people - throughout the UK. These are the people who need to assure their communities that they should not take up arms - because they will feel the need to protect themselves against thuggery. It is a damn powder keg. Ignoring the feelings of people on both sides of this situation only leaves room for paid shills to incite riots.

Mr Farage is no more than a rather dangerous shill. In fact I sometimes wonder if Mr Steve Bannon is still pulling the strings of the little puppet. I know conspiracist theory.

I don’t agree. Most prison cells can physically accommodate up to five single mattresses and yet cells are filled with two or one inmates. Fill each cell with five people and you can put tens of thousands more people in jail.
