Hello, everyone,
I’m on a roll here! Last week it was toilets, this week its visas! We intend to move to France permanently, if they will have us . We thought that we had done as much as possible on the visa front. We live in Florida, my husband is American, I have UK and US nationality. I went onto the visa application website and answered the screening questions. I tried 3 times and got the same result that we do not need a visa. We checked with an immigration lawyer today and discovered that we do need visas and they must be applied for in the USA. I could do mine in UK but it is tidier to do us both together as a couple.
I learned also that there is a website to go to for long stay visas, it is not the same one as the embassy site. Has anyone had this issue? Was it lack of foresight on my behalf? Perhaps someone else can learn from this mistake.
While you are applying for your visa you will be directed to a VFS site that does all the processing for French visas in the US
Hello @Philly55 .
There must be something wrong in the way you are answering the questiosn in the visa wizard to get that answer.
Its important you work out what that issue is, or else when you come to actually apply for a visa you may well make the same ‘error’.
So far I have had the 6 month visa for two years in succession. It is not an easy process to go through, made harder becuase of the amount of copies needed. I imagine you are applying for the ‘over 6 month’ visa, which has even more requirements including medical insurance.
Which visa application site? The official French run one I hope?
Yes, thanks. I will go through it
Thanks. If I had found this site, it would have answered my questions. I went online to the embassy site and it asks different questions. I was led to wrong conclusions .
My problem was going to the embassy site. There wasn’t a visa wizard. It is much more informative would have saved me a lot of trouble.
