What is this noise?

Anyone know what is causing this noise on full lock please? It started a few weeks ago and the local garage owner said not to worry about it, but it's getting worse and I would like to fix it!

Thanks

James

It's a 2002 Seat Alhambra

Fixed, it was the alternator pulley. 160 euros at VW main dealer. Happy with that!

Hi Tony, it's going in next week, it is possible that it's not a huge repair, just a pulley or bearing or something. We'll find out next week.

Perhaps you could help sourcing another part for me though, the left hand front electric window has stopped working. The garage have listed the part required as 7MO 837 461 leve-glace sans moteur, it's the window regulator, not the motor. They want 86 euros for the part plus fitting and VAT. Do you know where I can buy the part myself? Or maybe it is repairable?

Thanks

James

I'd go with that, mine is a hiss.

ah, but can you hear the noise ;)

James, this just reminded me to phone my garage so that I can take mine in for him to have a look and give me a quote on the brakes. For good measure I asked him about the 'noise' again, which he confirmed is in the power steering but not to worry. I asked if other cars have it. It is very common, Renaults frequently, Peugots, Seats, Fords, occasionally Fiats and he also has a BMW he services that has it. Again, he said don't bother.

I have it slightly in my Laguna too. Same from the garage as you (a Renault specialist), plus no mention of it on the CT comments when the car passed last Friday. Do what Simon suggests, then live with it probably.

Yes, why so expensive, does it need a new pump?

At a very expensive cost, I have lived with it on my Mondeo for years.

the car looks quite new, if possible take it to a car manufactures garage for them to have a look at.

Can it be repaired Simon? The noise is very loud!

sounds like the power steering pump relief lifting, if it is it is not a problem, it is a safety device to stop the system being over pressurized.
