We need to put a retaining wall along one edge of our garden - we would like it 2m high above ground. The wall would be built on a natural banking which slopes away to a level about 3m lower than the road level where our above ground 2m wall would start. It will be approx 18m long by 5m high (3m being retaining + 2 above ground) + foundations. Does anyone know rough estimates of how much per metre long this should roughly cost?
Yes we could for the bottom we have also been looking at gabions its currently a banking. I think we could terrace it or use gabions perhaps as an option to a wall but for the 2m at road level we do want a wall to keep the noise out and secure the garden.
Suzanne, I very much doubt anyone could give you a rough estimate for this. A retaining wall of that height and length is going to have to be extremely strong. ie it will need to be reinforced and thick. You will also have to consider drainage. If you know a civil engineer or similar get them to work out how it will need to be built. Would a possible alternative be terracing?
