Where in the world?

Chez nous, we have just started a new autumn/winter series of “Where in the world?”

Each Saturday we draw a slip of paper from a hat with the name of a country on it. We then have to research the cuisine of that country ( … well look at some YouTube clips) and cook a related menu. Last year we discovered some really interesting dishes. For example, Babotie from South Africa which contained ground meat, egg custard and slices of bread. I know it sounds weird but it tasted amazing.

Yesterday started with Japan. Making Sushi with a bamboo mat looked a doddle on screen. In practise the vinegared sticky rice stuck to everything except what it was supposed to. It all came right in the end.

We have the « take one thing from store cupboard that has to be used up » and create something with it. So generally exotica that people have given us like halva, or prickly pear condiment. Can be a challenge.

That’s a very cool idea!!

Bobotie’s from the Cape, it can be anywhere on a spectrum from very good to vile. Either end could be classed as ‘authentic’!

Our grandsons favorite meal.
I have been making this for 60 years.

While I like the sound of “Where in the world?”, my gadget-craving would become yet more unhealthy. I ought to stick with @JaneJones ’s idea.
