Errr some of us have found certain administrative processes rather straining. Particularly trying to get things done with officialdom during Covid. As you couldnât just go and see people.
I suppose depending what you were trying to get done to conforn to official requirements, your personal circumstances and how similar it was to where you came from, some could come close to âlosing the will to liveâ. Or at least need TLC and therapy
PS If you come from Switzerland, based on my time there I would say you are exceptional. You would have very little culture shock from the admin point of view and there are many, many upsides to life here.
Official systems that donât work properly might upset you though,.when(ever) they aee encountered. And after a while here, youâd probably be quite impressed that a lot of things can be done that technically you might think were not within the rules. As youâd have so little adaptation needed to other admin ways, youâd have an advantage over many of us in quickly identifying which are areas of flexibility and which are not.
A former CEO used to rate us on the content our presentations, but we had to hide as many song lyrics as we could. It really focused you on getting the message across.
âAs the sun beats down and I lie on the benchâ was just taking it a bit too far.
I think Mr Farmer should have told you not to waste your time.
I used to work for an MD who would sing âIâve been dazed and confusedâ occasionally, among many other things.
Regarding the âSurviveâ Iâve known a few French natives that have struggled with what is nominally their own culture too. One lass I knew who was trying to import her car to the UK in the 90s slammed the phone down after a long call and shouted âOoh, she was sooo⊠FRENCH!â in a strong French accent.
Funny thing is, long before I knew of this forumâs existance, I came here to live in September '99 and found nothing requiring me to survive anything. Within a day I had a part time job, within a couple of months I had a full time job but was told, unlike ordinary driving licences, I had to swap mine for a French one because of the HGV entitlement, and also get a carte de sejour. They gave me a day off work to go to the Sub Prefecture but it was all done and dusted by lunch time. Totally seamless.
